When's my MOT due?
#1
My Scoob is nearing three years old and I'm a bit confused as to when it needs an MOT. I first got the car (imported from Holland) on 16th April 2000,which gives me until Wednesday However the date of first registration is down as April 1st on the log book. Going by this I should have got it mot'd a couple of weeks ago
The vehicle inspectorate site just says "when the vehicle is 3 years old"
Anyone know for sure?

3yrs after date of first registration, so it looks like you've been illegal for a few weeks!!!
can't be 3yrs after import, cos imagine buying a car thats 10yrs old, you'd need a ticket, due to the cars age, not when it was imported.

Ian,
I picked it up mid April and took it to the DVLA but because it was part way through the month the tax had to run from April 1st therefore it is down on the V5 as Date of Registration as 1st April 2000.

I thought dealers could get tax for part months - maybe this doesn't apply direct from DVLA. Mine was registered on 1st March in any case so I didn't have same problem.
Get it done ASAP - I guess technically your insurance could be invalid without a valid MOT and its an offence to drive the car without one.
Cheers,
Ian.

Pete,
How was it registered before you collected it? I would say it needs MOTing three years from the date of first registration.
I recently MOTed my MY00 - you can get it done up to a month before the three years and they will forward date it if you have the logbook with you.
Cheers,
Ian.
