Need your help guys.

Received a telephone call not long ago which when answered went dead.

Subsequently, i received 13 text messages from the same number with no text message attached.

One of the guys in my work said there was /is a scam going whereby you inadvertently subscribe to that number and the cost of the text messages would be met by me.

Anyone know of this and if so what can be done about it?

All help as you can imagine , very much appreciated.

Switch your phone off so you can't receive them, then phone your operator to check if you're being charged for the SMS messages.

Your provider can put a block on that number calling you.
At least make them aware.
The first call may have been a test to see if your number was active.

Yeah,

Contact your provider, and if you have the number they came from you could always contact trading standards or what ever!

Thanks guys

I hope you're right about the test to see if active.

Been trying to get through to provider but as is usual, you're held on the line due to the exceptional number of calls blah blah blah

I've got the number which phoned and sent me the texts, so will see what comes up.

Anyone heard of the scam before and how it works?

Got through to the provider...eventually... but they won't be able to tell if i've been charged for the texts for at least 4 days!!

Gave them the number that sent me them, but didn't flag up anything with them, so will have to wait til next week before i find out

Question

Alan, quickly check with your service provider that the user of that suspect number drives a subaru, otherwise your topic might get moved by the Mods..LOL

Smile

Simon

I did also post in computer related but seeing as Scoobynet General states

General Subaru / Scoobynet Discussion

I thought a potentially wider audience may be able to help me at short notice, or this thread may be of use to others caught up in any potential scam.

If mods feel it is best to be moved to a more appropriate section, then be my guest.
