Question

So how does one get the classic boxer sound in an STi8, assuming we leave the stock twin scroll turbo in? I love that song! From some of the threads I've read, the boxer sound is still there, it's just really muted now.

Is it just a matter of swapping out the exhaust components OR is this exercise useless because the boxer sound is essentially gone because of some parameters we can't change (ie. firing order causes sound to disappear)?

I am also assuming that if you swap the twin scroll out for a regular turbo that the boxer sound will return automatically?

Over "here" (here being UK) we don't get the twin scroll. That's only the JDM version. Not sure what you get in Canada...

Having heard fully decatted STI8s over here, the sound is just mindblowing . Nothing to worry about...

In Canada, no STi's are sold for road use... neither gray imports (we have no importers, period) or CDM, hence we have to make our own.

I have a classic wagon shell and I'm dropping a JDM STi8 full drivetrain into her... 6 spd. tranny, twin scroll, DCCD-A and other goodies.

Wow, now I'm confused. The STi8's you have are UKDM's (purposely built without the twin scroll?) and not JDM Gray Imports?

My only qualm about getting the boxer sound is that I want the catalytic converter just ahead of the midpipe to be left intact since our local constabulary are rather **** about that.

A decent back box alone makes alot of difference to the sound

Got a trust system on mine and under acceleration she sounds the absolute business. BUT she is nice and quiet for motorway driving.

I think the lack of the signature boxer noise on the JDM STi 8's is something to do with the equal-length manifold.
