Cool

This weekend I'll hopefully have the chance to go up against the UK's fastest Saxo at Crail The car lives in Glasgow and is white with the standard alloys painted white (hence looks standard). That's where the similarities end though as it has a shed load of power!!

According to that accelerometer thing my car can 1/4m in 13.3s @ 108mph and I'm looking for an opinion on who'll cross that magical line first.

This is a link to Matts powergraph http://www.md009a4346.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Image1.jpg

Can any curve experts offer opinion on how that in a 950kg saxo will compare to a Tek2.5 MY99 with full decat, sti-V intercooler and dawes set at 1.2bar (about 275bhp but I have no graphs - sorry)

My bet is on the saxo catching my launch and passing just before or just after the 1/4m line.......I'm hoping just after

I hope the saxo does well. That is a lot of horses under a bonet of one of them.

I calculate you need the following power and torque at flywheel in your Scooby assuming 80kg drivers, ignoring traction issues/turbo lag (which may well cancel):

RPM / BHP / lbft
4000 174 229
5000 248 261
6000 298 261
7000 327 245

I think you are toast. I think you would be even until 5500 RPM after which he would leave you. Time to buy a TD05

Just a thought, but how do you do 1/4 in 13.3? thats mighty impressive for a 99 with a decat and tek 2 (I know, i got the exact same mods), I went to santa pod and got 14.1, the decatted wrx's were doing 13.6's on the day.

what accelerometer you using?

It was a G-Tech Pro thing if I recall and I did several runs. I'm going to use it at Crail and note down what the accelerometer and Crail say for each of my runs - might help to improve overall accuracy

14.1 sounds pretty cr@p to be honest Maybe there was a head wind that day or something?

John, I fear you may be correct. Win or lose I don't really care as Matts car is mighty impressive and also cost a fair bit to achieve so I'm sure he'd hope to see the returns. I'm confident the car is able to take my scooby but I'm hoping that it will require too much driver perfection to achieve all the time. With a bit of luck my launch will panic him and he'll go for too much power too quick

You know, if I didn't know better I'd say you were on comission from the manufacturer

i know 14.1 is crap, I was going easy on the clutch, reckon 13.8 is more like what I should be getting, but 13.3 sounds ALOT faster.

I'm told that the STI V Top mount IC is the same as the one that comes on the UK car anyway?

There is more than 0.3 of a difference between a careful getaway and a full bore IMHO.

The STI V intercooler is visually the same (except colour and a very slight kink in the corner) but I'm told the core is superior. It certainly put the boost up a tad and feels a little better especially now the hotter weather is here.

I'll try a good launch next time I'm at the pod but there were 300hp+ decatted classic wrx's (in particular a type ra) getting low to mid 13's

Well andy F was getting 11.8 in his ra with just 350bhp so I suspect they weren't trying hard enough

I did find out i'd only got 265hp and a faulty MAF a week later tho, thats all fixed now and car is literally flying, itching to go have another go

BTW, what made you have the DAWES? thought the TEK2 did a good job by itself?

Sorry to hijack your thread, but you have similar toys to myself

Ive often wondered is it possible to get all that power down from a front drive car without most of it going up in tyre smoke in the first 3 gears? as is well known with scoobs in general ithink, i cant get it to spin in the dry, im talking about an RA. What do you chaps think.

i have a video illustrating this when I got my 14.1, mate in a CTR was next to me spinning and got a 18.2, was a bad day!! he went again and got 16.2, i'm sure if he could get it on the road he'd be in the 14's

That's poor for a CTR on the basis my VTS did 15.3 as standard!

The dawes was already on the car when I got it but it has more snappy boost control than leaving the ECU in charge. Currently it will only hit 1.25bar on a cold day with some load in 5th which is the target for Tek2.5 anyway. I could probably run 1.3 bar safely but I'd rather not take the risk. The dawes gets more boost in the first 3 gears than the ECU would achieve, spools up quicker and with more aggression and it also spools up to full boost on about 25% throttle. It makes the car feel faster and probably is slight faster as well (not that you'd see it on the road)

JB, would be able to give a more tehnical explanation. I sometimes find I'm trying to drive normally and she just spools up and shoots off which is kinda cool

UHF, Dawes controls the boost better than the factory 2 port solenoid.

Can't comment on modded high power Saxo/Nova/Corsa but this week I have driven a Mondeo ST220 and an Alfa 156 GTA and I was very suprised with the amount of traction. Of course dropping the clutch at 4000rpm would light up the tyres with the traction control off but both cars can be driven hard without traction problems.

pray for rain!

if the queues are short, set the dawes just before fuel cut.

pray that you can still drive home by the end of the day .

Red face

Yeh sorry mate.

I put in the quote then hit enter before I had put in my thoughts so had to go back and edit it.

You must have posted while I was editing. LOL

Was just making the point that FWD can be designed to handle 200-250bhp well. How a car that is designed to handle 100bhp will manage 200bhp is another matter though.

Cheers

Cool

It is tempting to whap the dawes up but to be honest if my car needs to be ready to blow up to beat the saxo then it's not worth it! It would hardly be a fair/reasonable comparison of vehicles!

Please do not turn the Dawes up. You still haven't bought that knocklink too m8! Stick to the recommended boost levels I gave you for good reason. BTW your Dawes is quite close to fuel cut - which I put there for another good reason

Don't worry John I'm not interested in turning it up. It took me long enough to get it just right as it is!! I'm really not interested in winning be it crail or on the road - I like fair comparison which is why I NEVER race.

Sipie was just round and asked what I'll be taking out of the car to cut weight....er, nothing! Whats the point of getting 13.0 at Crail if you can only get 13.3 when you are driving the car with your normal gear in. I'll have a big dump on sunday though to cut my own weight
