Personally I think it's bang out of order. Don't sell your Scoob, going a little far.

I think cars should be allowed in stages like bikes.

Too right, they seem to be getting the same sort of image as the XR3i and RS Turbo. Time for a change and buy a grown up's car. Carrera 4 here I come.

160 from a standard scoob?

think the speedo was over estimating a tad.

still wouldn't let your son near him in a car, or you won't have a son

Scoob99,

I agree with your concern for your son...The guy must be stupid to drive at that speed, and i doubt he will have the car on the road long, i know a few people who have slipped up like this i.e young driver bought a powerful car by daddy and crashing....!

But.....Why would selling your car make any difference...................... AT ALL..!!!!

Does that mean everyone with a car which is capable of over 160mph should sell it because one lad drives like an idiot...??? i dont get it...

Dan

i have just got my first impreza, a wrx type RA. I AM 26 I have owner numerous fast fords over the last few years, i sold my RS2000 mk5 Escort to buy my impreza, i agree there is some youngsters on the road who shouldnt be driving the cars they do. but if daddy is going to buy them 200bhp+ cars who can blame them. i agree with a scheme like motorbikes and let them get used to 1.2l novas etc

Scoob99,

being a parent of teenagers myself I understand how these things get to you and I know how hard it is to stay out of it for the sake of your lad's cred.!

BUT, do yourself, your family & the innocent public a favour, have a word in his mate's shell like and make sure he knows where your coming from.

Angry words on this bbs are unlikely to prevent the next death, a 'sharp' word with this idiot &/or HIS father just might.

Good luck,

Steve.

TunnelMeister,
Gonna do that tomorrow, I was just so angry, the crazy thing is my son has seen what a high speed smash can do to you, I myself was hit by a drunk a few years back at very high speed, thought that might have got through to him, but I guess not.
Cheers

Good on you Colin!!!

My kid's are teenage girl's and are always being pestered by older lad's tryin' to impress with their car's, see where I'm comin' from!!!

You soon get over the 'should I, shouldn't I' crap when it comes to things like this!!

You have to go for it & say it as it is, because if you didn't and something went wrong you would probably never forgive yourself.

Be interested to know how you get on!!

We're all with you,

Steve.

I hear where your coming from, and i agree with some kind of system as with bikes. There should be some kind of advanced driving school at the very least before an 18 year old is allowed anywhere near a subaru. I am not going to pretend than none of us drive at excessive speeds but most have started with very low powered cars and worked our way up over a number of years.

completely agree with the scheme limiting young drivers, it's a death waiting to happen, no real life experience, doubt they will know what to do when in trouble or have it built in as instinct, i'm only 26 and started off with a 1.2 astra, 1.0l nova, 1.4sr nova, 240bhp rover gti then a 280bhp rwd cossie, bit of a jump from the nova to rover though

Be careful not to over react. You should be pleased that your son trusts you enough to tell you this in the first place. If you go off on one nothing will change, he just won't tell you in future. Whilst he trusts you enough to tell you these things you do have some control over the situation - talk it through with your son and make sure he understands the implications, and the fact that he needs to speak to his mate, and tell him if he doesn't then you will have to. Chuck in some spiel about if he wants a decent car he needs to show that he is a responsible driver, and if he is a responsible driver he will talk to his mate, or refuse to get in the car.

Disclaimer: I don't have kids - just know what I was like when I was younger. With my old man's temper I never told him anything! Got messed up in a car accident courtesy of a muppet at school and hid the injuries 'cos I thought it wouldn't be worth the grief!

fact is tho thet u always smash up your first car, and normaly your second and 3rd b4 u learn your lesson lol

i "upgraded" my cars like this this isnt your average upgrade list either lol

1.0 ohv nova - tuned up with loads of head work and carb/inlet manifold tinkering lol >>>>>>> 1.0 ohv nova - dropped a big block 1.6 lump in >>>>> 1.2 ohc nova tuned up with sr goods >>>>>>>> 1.2 nova with transplanted 1.4 sr engine, high lift cam, zorst, twin 40 carbs >>>>>>>> vectra 1.7td running 1.35 bar boost and uprated engine >>>>>> 280bhp impreza wrx

i rekon the last jump was kinda big lmao

Scoob, your quite right not to let your son out with this lad.At that age he really has no experience of driving and at those speeds its a tragedy waiting to happen.Lets face it if we had a car as powerful as the scooby at 18,a good few of us wouldn't be here today. In fact if any 18 year olds father buys him a scooby or helps him insure it,they should buy them a coffin to go with it.
There really should be laws preventing youngsters lose on high performance cars without proper supervision.

Colin,

Shocked to hear this mate, I think we all would like to know when your son's mate is out and about so we can all get off the roads!

To stop at 160mph it takes 160ft thinking distance and 1280ft stopping distance - about 1/4 mile (and thats in good conditions!)

The above link is to a story of a 19yo male, who was a very good friend of mines, that sadly I'll never see again

He was young, inexperienced and driving a Saxo VTS. Whilst I have no direct confirmation of this I'm told driver error was the cause

Perhaps you should show it to your son and his mate and ask them how they would feel about loosing a good friend at such a young age!

RIP 'wee frase'

Sorry to hear that SB

Everyone has driven like a *****, and luckly most of us have lived to tell the tale.
I hope for the lads sake the Police catch up with him before an Ambulance does.

Dangerouse game, but it seems to me the younger the driver the more likely he/she is to drive flat out.

Not having a go at young drivers, but they do tend to be very aggressive, and seem to have something to prove.

When I was 18 I still had the believe I was invincible & invulnerable. Took a crash that was 100% my fault to convince me otherwise - If i'd been driving the equivalent of a sccoby rather than a 1500cc anglia I'd have killed myself and probably a couple of others

The world of fantasy is alive and well. It is not possible to achieve 160 mph in the car quoted, and if we know that part of the tale to be absurdly false, why should we believe any of it?

while he may not have been doing 160mph I don't think that is the point....... I'm sure he will have been doing well in excess of 100mph. The point being made is that he has a car with the ability to do extreme speeds and he is doing so with very little driving experience.

Personally I blame his father. Very irresponsible to give a car like that to your 18 year old son.

Quick Reply: Raving mad, my sons friend thinks it's clever to drive at 160mph.
