sometimes, the, odd , piece of punctuation makes, a, sentance easier to understand! Sorry, hate to be pedandic but that was a tough question to get to grips with. For that money you are looking at a 1999/2000 (S,T,V,W) plate UK turbo in very good condition, these are a touch quicker than the later WRX as they are a lot lighter (or so lots of threads would leave me to believe) but have their downfalls too. Which shape do you prefer, do you want to spend money on modifications on your car, do you want to buy a car with warranty on it, where can you get an 02 WRX for £12,000? So many questions...... My personal advice, and this is opinion only, is buy a 2000 plate UK standard and spend about £2000 on things you want to improve, there are so many mods you can get for this car that you can tailor it to suit your driving, any Scoob you get and you'll be happy!!!!

Active, for clarity I believe the following to be true.

All imprezas 1992-2000 J to X plate) are the classic shape, these came in a number of guises including

Sport - non turbo'd mostly UK cars
2000 turbo - 2litre turbo UK car
WRX - 2litre turbo import car
WRX STi 1 to 6 - 2litre turbo car most at least 280bhp all imports
loads of limited editions, Mcrae, Catalunya, terzo, P1 etc. Some UK (the examples I have just listed) others import (type R, RA, v-limited, etc).
22B - 2.2 litre only 400ish handbuilt, only 16 official UK cars

2000 - 2002 came the 'new age' or bug-eye (Y to 52 plate)

2.0litre sport or GX
2.0litre WRX 220bhp approx (price £22,000 dropped to £18000 new)
2.0litre STi 265bhp approx (price £25,000 to £27,500 for prodrive spec)

2003 came the facelifted 'new age' or blob-eye (52 and 03 plate)

available in the same models as the 200-2002 cars.

Loads more info can be found at the SIDC FAQ, link in an above post. This however should give you a rough idea of the imprezas life so far.

Please don't anyone flame me or say 'but my bug eye is an X plate' etc, etc.

Hope this helps

Kev (bored at work)
