Well I took the plunge this evening and put down a deposit on a 98R Impreza Sport. HPI check has come through clear, so should be collecting it on Wednesday night Can't wait....

Only possible fly in the ointment is that the owner couldn't find the current V5. He had the transfer slip from the previous V5, but wasn't sure where the current one was. Can you check the current owner with the DVLA?

As the current owner, he can ask the DVLA for a replacement anyway.
I lost mine a while back, called them up, after a few questions sent me another.
Took about 10 days I think.

Have just phoned the DVLA to see if they could confirm the owner from the reg and the VIN, but they can't due to the Data Protection Act - half expected that.

Still, the info that DVLA could give me all matches up, I've seen the ownership transfer slip from when he bought it, and an HPI check came up clear and showing only 1 previous owner, with the last change in 2001, so he hasn't sold it to someone else

You can get a form from the post office, its something like a V64 or the likes, you just send that off
