What is a knock link - do i need one?
#1
I've seem a few mentions of a knock link - I'm not sure what the knock link is or does
i have a 98 WRX import running on Optimax - the boost guage shows 1.2 bar when full throttle is applied and about 1 bar when it settles.
I thought the car sorted its self out?!

A knocklink is basically a microphone that sits on the block listening for detenation which isnt good 4 your engine,it then illuminates a set off lights in your car dependant on the severity off knock being heard, JDM cars are mapped to run on 100 ron which we dont have, hence the more a car is tweeked i.e more air or decat the more likely you are to have det occuring & the wiser it is to be told off this so you can have a mapper look at a remap to avoid this happening in the future b4 its too late

sell it before then .....haha.
Only kidding I think it sounds like a good idea. Anyone got any idea what the dealers line would be on this? If I have one I want them to recommend it and them to fit it. I want no excuse for them not to have to pay out

the knocklink is essential if u have changed anything..gary with a exhaust and induction kit on ur car if it goes pop so will ur waranty..im are hot to this sort of thing and arent likely to cough 5,000 to replace the engine on a modded car

Thanks Gents
So advice is to fit one then?
My car has an STI system ( i think!!) one straight pipe from the turbo into a back box and thats it.
I was avoiding fitting an induction kit as i keep reading about problems with the car leaning off and damaging the engine, also it is a daily driver and i dont want it too loud
Any ideas on prices - if it is a home fit or which makes to go for?
Cheers
