Zip up your flame suit mate - when I posted, 'I need SUL/Optimax' I was taken appart by the collective for having been so stupid as to let my fuel level get below 1/2 a tank without a Shell or Esso in sight

I picked up my new WRX MY03 last week and the garage was in the middle of nowhere so they'd put a tenner worth of 95 RON unleaded, obviously as soon as i could i filled it up with super unleaded. Could anyone tell me will a tenner worth of 95 unleaded have an adverse effect or worse still done any damage ?
I've also read that cars that get run on 95 unleaded for a short time need there ECU's reset by a dealer in order to be run properly on super unleaded again. is this true and does it apply to a MY03 WRX ?

any help much appreciated.

Oh FFS all of you!

Just put NUL in your car and don't rag the t1ts off it. Simple. If you have a UK car of any sort, don't worry. If you have an import then just drive conservatively. You can still play, but don't use more than 5k revs or max chat acceleration.

Jaysus, I'm sure you're not all that anally retentive. NUL will not harm the car if driven accordingly.

Thumbs down

Thats really poor advice IMHO. My UK retards a little if pushed on 97RON SUL. If I put crap 95RON in and she boosted up to full (got the dawes so 25% throttle will happily give you 1.2bar) there is a good chance she'd det her t1ts off! Carry NF if you think you'll have to 95RON it at some point but don't IMHO fire it in and hope for the best if its an import or modded car.

Think yourself lucky you don't live in Jockland - it's a perpetual hunt up here to keep the P1 content (hardly any garages carry super unleaded, even supermarket ones), I have to plan my trips via Shell and have lost count of how many times the spare gallon came into use!

Seriously though, I wouldn't worry about running unleaded, mine's had the odd half tank in emergencies and has suffered no ill effects.

Depends what you mean by local when you say Newcastle, tis a reasonably big area. Could suggest a number of places, depends where you are really.

How important is it you use sul or optimax, the owmers book states for non turbo and turbo use 95 or above. I have had both in mine and not noticed any difference.

FFS are you lot a bunch of audi tt drivers? , using NUL for the rest of yours car life will not hurt it you may not get the full performance out of it but thats about it.
i run my wrx on NUL most of the time, subaru uk say it's ok and so does the tech who came to look at my car for a gearbox prob.
when i put optimax in i hardly notice the differance, and if you are so bothered carry a petrol treatment round with you like stp or max boost.
i would be more worried if i had put diesel in my scooby!! now that a problem.

You can't say things like using NUL won't harm your car in such a wide sweeping manner! It won't harm a standard UK but mines WOULD BLOW up on the stuff as would imports (eventually)!!

Saxo Boy in fuel-related topic. Nobody mention fuel surge. Not me no way.

I have to agree though - a standard UK car should be fine on NUL. The PPP certifcate for my RB5 also says it will run fine on NUL, so even if you dont trust Subaru UK, Prodrive know a thing or to. Purely for peace of mind I run on SUL/Optimax wherever possible, but if I have to stick in half a tank of NUL every now and then it's not the end of the world. Highly modified cars and imports are a different matter though.

My 93 wrx was run on NUL for months before I was told to use SUL with no problems. Just be sensible and don't thrash it too hard until you get some more SUL
