Wrote off my STI8, last night!!!!!
#1
Last night my wife was driving home, after watching Justin Timberlake, and lost control going 45mph round a bend hitting the grass verge on the left. After shouting "what you doin", she swerved to the right hitting a wall for 20 metres and coming to halt hitting a telegraph pole snapping it like a carrott. With the pole flying in the air crashing down on the back end. As well as taking several traffic signs out.
Once coming to a halt I asked her if she was ok and the gas from the airbags made it look like it was on fire, so we both dashed out.
We are lucky to be ok only a few minor aches and pains. But the cars probably on worth a couple of quid now, a write off without a doubt.

seriously gutted for you and glad you're both ok.
i'd get the wife checked out before she drives again - if i was your insurer i'd assume you'd left a 1 off the front of that number or that your wife thought she was playing the piano rather than driving the car

Cheers for all your replies, yeah the car is only a lump on metal and can be replaced.
As regards to write off, not quite sure what`ll they do to be sure. Yeah it looks in a real bad way the entire front drivers side corner, wheel etc. has been pushed back big time, and the front of the car is now a foot smaller. While driving along the wall the car was hitting rocks, which ripped chunks from below.
I`ve got to wait five days for the insurance to give their verdict. If it`s a write off they replace it new for old otherwise I guess it will be a long wait for the repair.
If it`s repaired will this show up on any paperwork when I traded it in at a garage etc.

Just been down to the crash sit and can`t believe we got out of that OK. 20-25m of wrecked walls signs and telegraph poles. With the remains of the car still on the side of the road.
Been mulling it over with the wife and come to the conclusion we haven`t got a clue what happened. The strange thing was she didn`t apply the breaks at all hoping I think she would correct it. The wall and the signs etc. grinded us to a halt.
On the plus side I had protected NCB and providing I stay with Tescos they told me today this wouldn`t effect my NCB and hopefully I`ll have another STI8 in due course. Just have to wait to see what the Tesco`s man says about the motor.
