new one on me, just to warn other people. This was posted by my friend from work earlier:
-----
You may not believe this but my mother got carjacked today at 7pm.
She was driving along a single carriage way sort of track road in her BMW Z3 when she came across a large branch across the road.
She stopped the car to clear the branch and some cheeky so-and-so's jumped in her car and drove off with her handbag/mobile/etc.
The only number she could think of was mine which she rung from the nearest farmhouse and we got somebody to go and find her.
The tracker people rung my sisters mobile to check if the car was being driven without permission as she was the backup number and they immobilised the car and contacted the police who then homed in on the scuttlers
------
Moral: drive round branches![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

friend of mine told me that in certain areas of south africa people actually lie in the road acting dead or injured. instead of stopping the car they carry on and at the last second they jump off the road!! putting their lives at risk for a car.

i don't stop at my branch anymore ... i have a personal banker that phones me.
i'm not a customer but i believe First Direct don't have branches at all, so they avoid this problem completely.
hope that helps

Heard about another one recently where a bloke driving a Jag had a briefcase on his back seat. Someone came up to the car at some traffic lights, opened the back door and ran off with the briefcase.
The driver got out and gave chase, at which point a second person swiped the car...

Best thing about that South African one is..when the guy is lying on the road, they normally have someone else lying in the grass by the side of the road to pounce too.
So swerve round the bloke on the road...drive over the grass..and run over the theiving tw@ts mate !!

not jacking but road robbery
a few years back [10 or 12] when we had snow down south in the box hill area a group of lads were stopping cars on a long slippery snow covered hill, nothing bad just waving cars down when they stoped the just said now you are stuck we want £20 help you get moving again, quiet funny realy, they stopped my but I had the last laugh, reverse gear and boom off backwards down the hill, most other muppetts were paying up

I have the anti hi jack thing. Basically every time you open the door while the engine is running you have to put in a code otherwise the engine will shut down after 30 secs. Well technically it shuts down after 30 secs have passed and your braking so if it's a long straight road they could in theory get quite far but should at least get your car back!
Hope that helps
