Exclamation

Hello all,

Just been quoted £600 for my Impreza Turbos 60k service. The cars actually only done 32k but it's 4 years old now - this sound about the right price for a main dealer?

I know it's due it's cambelt change now but it still seems a bit steep, what else do they do on this service?

What are other people paying for this service?

Cheers,

Gary.

Riftzone,

Mines a MY99, where do you get yours serviced? I'm using Adam Garage in Aylesbury, Bucks - think I should haggle?

Cool

i take it this is newer model where they say not needed to cambelt change at 45k then? Anyway i just had the big boy 90k dun at a non subaru aftermarket rally tuning specialsit & had timing belt tensioner, bracket, idler pulley, timing belt & alternator belt as well as all fluids checks, plugs etc for around £740 which was good value since despite spending all day on it, i shud no i waited, only got charged 4.5 hours labour so back on track £600 is about the going rate for a main dealer as far as im aware but u may get better deals elsewhere

Gary,
Speak to TH White in Cirencester, they do my MY00 every service, they are sensible about what they do, looking at the mileage the car has done, mine is very low miles and a "tailored" service is done for me at a very acceptable price.
The bottom line is they are honest realistic people, which is why I drive 160 miles round trip to let them do it.
Service manager name is Andy (I think).
Hope this helps.

Ian

Scooby_Si,

Yep, 60k cambelt change according to the book. I guess that's what's put the price up above Riftzones £381. I'll check out of few other dealers to see if they're better value.

Cheers,

Gary.

So when do you have to change the cambelt on a my99 then? I thought it was at 45k??

£600 is what I paid for 60k service on MY00. The belt alone retails at over £100. ALL fluids are changed too, and it does take a whole day according to Subaru.

gary - £381 from gilesgate ltd, hexham. i was quoted £350 by dennis commons but it was far enough not to warrant the saving. timing belt interval on a my99 is 45k and 90k. check out the service schedule:-

http://www.riftzone.fsnet.co.uk/scoobservices.jpg

c d bramall did quote me £650 and when i kicked off, they'd mixed it up with a my2000 who's timin belt interval is different. sounds like you're bein ripped off to me...

Just spoke to the dealer, even though they've been saying I need a Cam-Belt change this time I got them to check through their service records for my car (always had it serviced there). Looks like it was changed at 45k after all - relief! They're still quoting £500+ though minus the belt!

I've mentioned the quotes you guys have had and they'll "see what they can do". They charge £70ph and quote (still!) 4 hours for the sevice minus the belt. Meantime I'll check out a few other Subaru dealers near where I'm working at the mo' (Newbury).

Cheers for your input guys,

Gary.

I've just got a couple of quotes for the 60K service on my MY98. One dealer quoted £750 (including front disks & pads) & the other quoted £670 for same job. However, the lower quote will also give 10% discount to SIDC members, so the quote ended up at £603 incl vat.
Worth shopping around

Stay away from CD Bramall service department in Newcastle. I bought mine from there (good sales department ) and the service department couldn't sort out a belt problem. In the end they sent me to another dealer because "we're not specialised enough to sort this out".

Gilesgate have excellent service and just did mine yesterday. The car is spotless inside and out after the 45k service - £143. Bramall's quoted £250???? (I was there for something else and just thought I'd see what their price was.) Probably the friendliest and most knowledgable service department I have come across. I'm not over keen on the sales guy though, and wouldn't buy a car from him.

Cheapest in the region is Dennis Common, I was talking to them yesterday and they only charge £38 per hour labour. This is unheard of for a main dealer of any manufacturer IMHO. Definitely worth ringing for a quote for any work - fitted turbo front discs and pads for £350.

I've also heard very good things about SG Petch in Darlington.

MY00 cambelt is 60k, remember that some MY00s were sold in late 99. If you've got colour coded wing mirrors and door handles it's a MY00

Lightbulb

Think the service schedule is dependent on the chassis number, not just the MY. Some MY00 require cambelt at 45k and later ones at 60k. Something to do with a Y in the chassis number I think.

Cool

I've just paid £250 for a 60K service inc Cambelt

PTMW! is an MY99

It was not done at a Subaru main dealer, but at a Subaru specialist using all Subaru OEM parts, according to exact specification. The book is stamped accordingly.

My view is that @ 60K, unless you've gone for extended warranty, which is only for years not mileage IIRC, then its marginal difference to re-sale value if, for once, you step away from the dealer network.

However, with a saving of £200 (best localish Subaru dealer was £460) then it was worth making a trip to Hampshire to have it done (tank of juice - £40) & at the same time I made a large saving (£120+) on a set of Goodyear F1 GDS3s

This sublect often pops up ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if i were you id call the dealer who serviced at say 45 k or 3 years as most dealers are renewing the cam belts at 45k on all classics , not worth the risk as far as they are concerned as most are still warrented , , so you will end up being charged twice , this is of course if you are the new onwer since the 45k serice

My 60k service will be up in september.
I have been in contact with TSL and they quote £500 inc vat.
I have heard good things about them, so that is where i
will probably take it.
By the way, i have an MY98 with only 45k on it at the moment
