Interesting one this as I swapped from an MX-5 to a MY02 scooby ! Both cars have their strong points and weaks points.
Scooby has definately much more power and more grip, and is the better motorway cruise and possibly safer as larger and heavier. But the Scoob cost loads more to run and even more when end up modifing it.
MX-5 has more direct steering and much better feel, it is more enjoyable at the legal limit - do not need to drive it a warp speed at to get any excitment out of it. MX-5 gets less attention from the police but more approving attention from the general public of all ages. Got more females phone numbers when had the MX-5 than have had with the Scooby (none so far !!). MX-5 got less idiots running one inch from my bumber desperate to overtake. RWD bit was great fun to relive stress at roundabouts / clear junctions
Loved open air bit - the few times I got to use it.

As to which is better- A hard one to decide, Depends (for me) on what type of mood I was in. It depends on what type of driving do in either, how many miles in either etc

I can't see an MX5 being appealing in the slightest, what a woofters mobile imo.

 

An MX-5 is better than a scooby for some things, for sure (insurance, fuel consumption, roof down, cost). Sccobys are better performing, handling and driving. They are both good at what they do.

The buyer buys what they want, so it isn't a question of 'better', unless you are defensive about what you own/aspire to or merely feeling tribal....

Sorry mate, my Scoob has better traction and bags more grip than my MX5 but NO WAY has it better handling. That is the whole point of a 5.

 

Say what you want about mx5 peeps but at least they run decent forum software, unlike the pap we use here
