Got word this very day from colin noble (A F NOBLE), With regards ty my long awaited ppp.
After a 2 week long wait "IT'S HERE". She is booked in on monday 26/5/03 for installation.
I'v been told it takes a couple of hours, So i'm going to wait at the dealer ( with chewed nails ) while her reincarnation takes place.

No my decat pipes are coming from Scoobyworld. There are 3 cats on the wrx sti. 1 before the turbo, and 2 after the turbo. Ignore the one before the turbo as it requires 4 hours labour. The other 2 cost me £320 in total and the subaru dealer said they would fit them for me. The service department said that this wouldnt effect the warranty as long as all the original parts were kept. It will however fail an MOT test as well as light the engine management light permantly. Speak to Scoobyworld as they know of a devise that will correct this.

Removing the catalysts on your car fitted with our performance
package will take your car outside warranty as it would with an otherwise standard car, despite what your dealer has told you.
I believe that Subaru UK will be inspecting every car that has a warranty claim related to engine issues prior to authorising any warranty claim.

Actually, this thread should be sticky...
Guys, it's been like this for a few years now:
1) you fit Prodrive (and ONLY) Prodrive packs, and your warranty is OK (well, in the UK, and possibly some other countries)
2) you fit some other stuff with it, and say bye bye to the warranty (and rightfully so IMHO).
Apart from the fact that it's pretty stupid to do a decat after you had the PPP MY03 reflash (that dealer should be sacked IMHO)... nothing "gives" 20 BHP. Tuning is what the word means: matching the bits & bobs that are on your car. Fit something else and the whole thing may fall apart. Even if it doesn't, say bye bye to warranty.
The PPP will be geared towards a standard car with *their* changes, NOT towards the ultimate BHP or the owner fitting some more bits etc...
Could I suggest doing a search ? This has been talked about so many times.
Mike, I've never been a fan of the PPP, but your patience is remarquable
Edited coz I still can't spell warranty

I think most people would agree that those little cats underneath the car are clearly restricting the car to meet with tight EU laws. I will have the dealer fit my decat pipes and PPP kit and run it on the rollers and publish the results here for people to see. Then people can make their decisions on whether to keep theirs standard or not. Anyway, keep the standard parts, and in the unlikely event of taking the cats off causing any problems, refit the originals and then take it to the dealer. This solution may not suit everyone, but it sure as hell seems good to me.

Let's get technical on this now.
If the car produces more power it can be for several reasons but basically it's flowing more air through the engine. As the 03 WRX PPP is getting fairly close to the upper limit of what the std injectors could deliver if it was asked to run the safer 'high det' map, then flowing more gas will mean that it can't necessarily give more fuel to keep the mixture in line with the target set. So just when it needs help it can't get the fuel it needs.
There are many reasons why this may happen and the safety feature of the high det map is there for a very good reason.
Hope this helps

If you want the best possible performance, you should be prepared to pay for it - and if that means an engine rebuild outside of your (now invalidated) warranty, then so be it.
You want a warranty - stay standard or go with a PPP. You want more - forget the warranty. Seems fair to me.
At the end of the day, don't play if you can't afford to pay...

simple solution - keep your old standard mid and back box and swap them on when you go for a warranty claim. My dealer said they'd do this - obviosuly naming no names. Or is this niaeve?
But also spk to Pete Croney at Scoobysport - he reckons PPP plus scoobysport decat is good for 270-280 bhp and may have a different opinion on the reliablity issues.
or fit ECUtek 3 + decat - but kiss goodbye to your warranty....

Cheers Mike (prodrive),
I think it would make sense to keep my warranty, And stick with the prodrive for the time being.
The de-cat question was more out of intrest than desire. Perhaps when the 3 year is up i may consider chasing down more power, or even an sti with ppp.
cheers
