I am with TESCO great price £495 me and girlfriend but the people selling the insurance do not have a clue what they are talking about, I asked "Retrieve or Monitor" they said "must be Thatcham cat 1 device" !!!! WTF. So had the retrieve fitted to save any hassle. I think it is a total scam anyway, they want it fitted to catch the gangs stealing our cars but that does not help us when we get our cars back and they are classed as stolen recovered. Personally I would hang the bstds that steal the cars in 1st place that would cut down on car crime.

I need to buy a tracker because Tesco Insurance requires one to be installed. Can you guys recommend anywhere around Berkshire that will supply and fit? I'm also looking for the cheapest option, because I'm already forking out a fortune for insurance. I was quoted £300 (tracker + install), and £550 (monitor + install). I was also quoted £100 for subscription from Sextons in Reading.

Please help, this sounds like a lot of money to have to pay.

Hi,

I've had my WRX MY01 a week now and I'm looking at the tracker option. I'm near Reading so maybe we could be a group buy going?

I've been on to Tracker Network and their prices are:

£199 - Tracker Retrieve
£100 - Install
£99 - Subscription

--- or ---

£299 - Tracker Monitor
£150 - Install
£99 - Subscription

They recommend John Kleis Car Hifi on Basingstoke Road. I wouldn't mind a group buy, but could we get enough people together to make a decent discount?

bought a scoob 3 weeks ago now, like you im with tesco - had to pump for a tracker

bought tracker monitor £450 quid including installation then i had the option of paying £300 for a lifetime subscription or £100 per year.

not really interested in the tracker as if the car gets nicked and recovered its pretty much worth bog all when you come to sell it, but i had to have a tracker through tesco and at the time they were the only ones who would insure me.

at the end of the day paying this for the car is only the begining, read up on the servicing costs, seem to range between £400 - £600 each time + insurance + petrol (you will use a $hit load of petrol for a while, i know i still do), then you get to doing mods - tracker is the least of your worries.

see if you can get a group buy going

above all when you sit in your car and turn that ignition on and smile thats what you are paying for - enjoy your car

Question

I've just phoned Tesco Insurance, and they are telling me that as long as the Tracker is Insurance Approved, there are no obligations for me to buy the Monitor?!? Does this sound right? Anyone else insured with Tesco's with only a Tracker Retrieve?

Thumbs up

As above ,I think you will find it has to be the Monitor or Horizon versions ,as a lot of the insurance co's don't think the basic retrive is good enough .

Okay, what about this. Within the next month I have to provide proof to Tesco Insurance that the Tracker has been installed. Could I install the Tracker, but not subscribe right away, and just send the installation documents to Tesco? Or would they require proof of subscription also?

Bit tricky if it gets nicked they will try anything to wriggle out of paying ....not worth the risk IMHO

Yeah, but I've survived 2 years without trouble (tempting fate), and my insurance is due now, so I have to pay a hefty deposit, road tax, and tracker - which is near enough £900 straight off. I was just thinking about delaying the subscription for a month until I get paid again.

I renewed with Churchill this month , don't require Tracker and were cheaper than Tesco .....I am 36 though. Give them a try , nothing to loose !

Don't like mods though !

Well I might risk going for a Tracker Retrieve then. Because I was told on the phone that as long as it's Insurance Approved etc... it doesn't matter. If they suddenly turn round and say otherwise, I'll raise hell If that person mis-informed me then it's their fault for not training their staff properly. That's my excuse anyway

Did you get to pay in installments, and if so, how much per month?

so is mine... I'm a student and hence don't have an "income" I had to have the subscription done in my name and the credit agreement done in my dad's - I just then have a standing order to him.

Be very carefull here, most Ins Co wont recognise the retrieve system! I know of peeps that have had to dunk the retrieve in favour of a Monitor.

My Ins for one, specifically told me the retrieve would NOT do.

I paid £350 for Tracker Monitor including fitting then £99 annual subscription.

I have since changed insurance company to Admiral who don't give a discount for it. an Immobiliser was a must but in their experience cars with a Tracker still get nicked and trashed and cost them the same at the end of the day.

Would the standard RAC Trackstar be acceptable to insurance companies like Tesco? Or would I have to pay for the 24 Hour Guardian?
