Evo or Scooby

your in the wrong place if you want an un-biased opinion!!
I've got an MY99 UK Scoob with Scoobysport zorst - goes like **** off a shovel!!!! This is my 2nd one.
The reason I've got it is basically that I prefer it to the EVO. It's cheaper to run, and sounds better.
Have a look at the EVO forum for another biased opinion!!!

honestly an evo
theyre faster, handle better and are more comfortable. I own a Scooby and am saying that so it is not a biased opinion. Fact is they are better cars and a lot of scooby owners upgrade to them. Hence why all the magazine tests say the evo is better.
Subaru has the heritage, the sound and the feel going for it. Its a rawer driving experience, but on the factors you specified Evo every day

I have never driven an Evo so I can only provide the following if it helps. Firstly the Evo has a service interval of 4500 miles compared to about 10000 for the Subaru. Whilst I was in my local Subaru dealership one day whilst I was looking at the Impreza, a customer came in who already owned an Evo 6 or 7. He had test driven the STI7 and said it wasn't quite as agressive but is much more livable for an every day car. I have also heared the Evo doesn't have the nice agressive induction roar which you get with the Subaru and I have to say from looking the Subaru interior is much superior to the Mitsubishi. After this I decided to purchase an STI7 and I am very happy with it.
If I decided to change my car I would drive the Evo to see if I would have one, but the 4500 mile service interval does put me off as I do drive to Cornwall about 4 times a year.

Right trying not to be biased my view on the EVO .
EVO pros :
Faster than a UK scoob
Easier to drive due to electrically gizmos driver aids
Can be tuned reliably to 400+bhp
Rarer
Aggressive looks (personal choice and I have put it pros but I prefer the scoobs)
Attracts attention
EVO cons :
In standard form about the same performance as a JDM scoob in fact some are slower due to power to weight
Servicing every 4,500 (on the older ones to change the AYC fluid not expensive just something you need to do)
Small fuel tank can be a pain
Interior not as good as the scoob IMHO
Doesnt sound as good as a scoob
More expensive to insure than either a UK or JDM Scoob
Can be tuned essier but like scoob they are expensive to do this properly
Slightly harder ride than most of the scoob except the full on JDM STis Type R or RA
Difficult finding a good second hand, not many for sale
Attracts attention
I think thats pretty honest view .
If I hadnt already got a JDM type RA I probably would have an EVO right now. For me it came down to personal preference I preferred to keep my RA than buy an E7.

Contairy to popular belief over here on good ol SN, the Evo does NOT need a full service every 4700 miles. It is the diff oil that needs to be changed (hopefully it may sink in in bold) This you can do yourself in 30 mins, or if you cant be bothered to get your hands dirty you can get a specialist to do it, should cost you about £60 for diff service. Apart from that the service intervals are similer to a scooby.
Not having a go like, just everytime an Evo is mentioned the same crap comes up. I just had mine serviced Fully inc diff and it cost me £200.
Regarding running costs, I owned a scooby before and theres not alot in it, you just notice more cos of the smaller tank on the evo.
As Mr P up there has pointed out there are lots of +/- about either cars (those up there are his opinion), both are great cars, your lucky enough to have a choise go drive a few of both marques and choose the one you like.
I'd buy the evo just because there not as commen but thats me.

JDM STI/RA yes, but not a base WRX.
If we are compairing like for like it would have to be Evo/STI/RA. The base WRX doesnt come close, in fact my *modded* WRX wassent a patch on the Evo either.
The 22B I drove was easily as fast as my standard evo. 22b was fat though. If ever I come back to the fold that would be the car that would drag me. Hmmmm

Buy a cheap runaround (ie like my mondeo that i use for work ) and keep the evo for the weekends (insurance aint much of a problem and cheap to service at just over 100 quid a shot )

Besides, I'd get bored by the time I got out of my close.

If ur lookin at buying an evo 6 then uve got the money for an sti7, u can pick one up with very low miles and at least a 2 yr warranty still left on it, a better buy i'd say, must admit i do like the looks of the evo, but the scoob sounds the nuts and its that rumble that gets u the looks, hmmmmm!
Dont take what we say for gospel, a good idea would be to phone ur local mitsubishi dealer and find out servicing costs, i did and it worked out to much 4 me!

I do come across as having a big downer on the EVO this isnt the case. I went to look at one and decided it wasnt for me. The AYC wouldnt worry me I only do 5k miles a years anyway so it would be done every 2,500 with the 6 month service. The small fuel tank wouldnt bother me either I fill the scoob every 200 miles anyway and get 18mpg .
Anyway Crypt its your fault I went to look at a seven after seeing your 5 as I was seriously tempted. I wanted a new one though so I knew the history and obviously a 5 or 6 would have been second hand. I prefer the 5 and 6, 6.5 to the 7 or 8.
You need to drive both and make your own mind up and find a good 'un.

I have standard 2002 WRX and yesterday took an EVO VIII FQ300 for a test. The EVO is without a doubt in a different league, the performance, handling and drivability where all far superior. The interior was better than my scoob, it had very little if any turbo lag and was pleasant to drive off boost.
The down side is, the amazing handling will see you go through a set of Yoko's in about 5k miles (Im not kidding, the AYC just lets you plant it in corners, you can almost feel the bloody things scubbing away). Fuel! The salesman told me that the service intervals where 4.5k @ about £150 a pop (if it did'nt need tyres). Finaly, you know that feeling you get when you get in the Scoob and you think "No rush I will just take it easy", but after about 2 minutes you just have to nail it because its addictive.
The EVO is even more so! You will get addicted to driving around the outside of Scoobs on roundabouts and just leaving them for dust........But then have to watch them go flying past as you stop to fill up for the 4th time that day!!!

yes but further investigation will reveal sumin like an evo7 RS sprint doesn't have so many technical thingamies like AYC (if i recall right) & is probably 1 of the tastiest evos to tune m8 has just gone from STi5 type R to evo7 RS sprint & having been in both the evo is much harsher but sumwot faster. The cliche as already mentioned is scoob is better all round package but evo better track car init
Baically have a play in both & c wot works for u i am/will as well as many other nice toys b4 upgrading my current UK scooby

I love my Scooby but it was a test drive in an Evo 5 that got me hooked on the whole thing.
Infact I took quite a few Evo 5 and 6's out and in my oppinion the Subaru in nicer to drive in a normal/Quick type of way but the Evo is nicer to drive when you want to go for a "proper" drive.
Both cars are very capable and both have the ability to leave your bank account empty.
The only way to tell which one you think is the better car for you is to drive both an see for your self...I bought a Scooby but something keeps telling me i should have gone for an Evo 5, maybe next time.

The general opinion seems tobe that the Evo is the better nutters car. The Impreza more sensible and cheaper to buy and run.
For me it came down to money. I would love an evo6TME, but instead I got a year old Impreza with 285bhp and 5k of mods for under£15k.
It's also more comfortable for the family.
Only you can decide. Chances are, as with most people, cash will be the deciding factor.

There you go then, without a doubt it's down to personal preferance and what you want out of a car! I love both, but the evo always had a edge over the scooby.

I have just upgraded my impreza turbo to a EVO7 RS2 and it is with out doubt the faster of the two cars, the scooby is easier to live with. But if you want a driving experience go and have a test drive in the EVO they are awesome.

after owning an evo 5 and owning 4 scooby turbos i would go the scooby way from now on much quicker bottom end power but the evo has more top end power, but when and where is that needed????
and the handling of the evo on public roads was awfull i lost it twice but never lost a scooby yet

Stubee doo you obviously cant drive then!!!!
Bored of the usual crap about more to service, etc etc less fuel consumption
all a load of crap - yes the Evo has a smaller tank - mine get serviced every 6 months as I never do 4500 miles in it, just same as my scooby was...
Servicing costs are just the same as my scooby was. The dealers are actually HELPFULL & want to service imports..
They are costs wise no more to tune than a scooby & are less likely to go pop...
The suspension is a 'bit' harder but no-where near as bad as people make out.
usual people who cant admit like for like i.e. GSR which is higher specced than an STI anyway is a quicker & better car all round
People try & compare an RA Vs an Evo GSR - make it fair & compare it to an RS model then - again IMO the RS beats it hand down... again.
& yes Ive owned 2 impreza's now & yes now I own an Evo
