I was getting my chinese take away (sweet n sour chicken, boiled rice and mini spring rolls very nice), when it came on in the shop.
heard the fiat/ford thing and laffed, heard the scooby thing and nearly dropped my soy sauce :O
at that point my local propriator gave me my food and I left, can anyone give me some more details of what was said afterwards please...
Andy
p.s. go to the above link and see what the average repair cost of the scooby is

Subaru Impreza - With the highest average cost of repair and quite a good index rating - Which means that the car fails infrequently but when it does then you will be in for a very big bill, you can also see that the majority of claims are axle and suspension followed by transmission and engine.

JD Power has always been a skewed survey IMHO, in the past really bad as totally voluntary, i.e. i love my car/hate my car only respond, better now as they have access to DVLA records, but even then only those with a story to tell are motivated to reply.
Having said all that, if the scooby were that bad it would have always fared badly...we all know an unmolested scoob is reliable, so wtf

Not to be all "I've got one so it must be the best car in the world" but if you go into the web site I think someone has been having a cheeky laugh because when you click on Subaru and choose which model you want to know the details of, the Impreza has a reliability index of 241 (worse than Jeep over all) but the average cost of repair is "£1" and I think we all know thats not true so perhaps some fake voters me thinks

Only a couple of years back, the J D Power survey placed us tops in reliabilty. During the past year, various reports have emerged that place the Subaru brand at the bottom of the stack. I have a skeptic's view on all this, and can't hide the suspicion that the truth may not be the principal objective for certain parties in the more recent, unsubstantiated tables.

Ah, I see. Let me put it like this; I trust J D Power. Their organisation has a fine reputation for producing facts and figures that have been researched thoroughly, and that can be verified. Their reputation is such that any suggestion of malpractice, or falsifying of reports, could damage their credibility, and therefore, their profits. On the other hand, the reports that have condemned the Subaru as unreliable, have sprung up from nowhere, and I suspect that there could be organisations whose motives are to reduce the stature of Subaru, and enhance some other badge.

Yep. I can't believe the Scoob has had such a spectacular fall from grace, top to bottom in two years. For one thing, if it had suddenly become so unreliable, this forum would be flooded with gripes, not least of all, from me. I know we encounter the odd moan, but they don't tend to spring from the owners of cars registered during the past year or so.

J.D. Power don't get a good reputation in the US for unbiased reporting of the facts.
I know nothing about J.D. Power personally but do recall that when they started saying the Subaru was so good their reputation was sold on the "highly respected in the USA" line. However, the general public don't seem to think too highly of them at all in the USA.
So, it is possible that no one in this equation is as reliable as we might expect. It is also possible that there is a lot of duff info floating about out there.
All I can say is that I haven't found my Subarus to be very reliable when compared with other cars I've had which didn't show so well in the J.D. Power survey. I doubt if they would rate as the most unreliable make but I also don't think they are up there with some of the other Japs and Germans.

I've looked into this a little and it appears to be the Modded cars that bring the score crashing down.
The Subaru - in standard running trim, as the top engineers in FIJI Industries designed them .... are superbly reliable.
When halfwits start boosting power up to silly levels then bits fall off ............ amazingly enough!! these owners think Subaru are **** because their engine let go while trying to give out the mickey-mouse 350BHP that the good man at the rolling road said it was delivering whilst he took £75 easy money off them - do they see you coming?? Youre dead right they do!!

i recall that subaru got the top spot due to a whole range of things, but always got a special mention for customer service from dealers, now the dealers know they have a good product are they slacking, hence scoob falls from grace... just a thought

Depends how the put the survey together - if it's based on cars going for repairs, then Subaru's are likely to go for repair far more than a car that isn't driven in a "spirited manner". After all, I remember reading a Parkers summary of the Impreza that said something along the lines of "look out for damage repair, as the cars are often driven by people who's enthusiasm far outweighs their ability"
Apart from one minor glitch with a faulty key, I had no problems at all for the three years I owned my Scoob.

Its interesting how JD power becomes a flawed survey when the figures don't look good . I for one was happy to read the positive swing of JD Power when I bought my scoob 4 years ago and it was widely touted here as showing how good Subaru were.
However I had an import and did see problems with my car, the biggest impact was price of parts versus the VW ownership I had had before. Most performance cars, especially second hand will be potentially pricy to run , given the additional stress of usage.
Good cars but don't buy one expecting low running cost's should be the watchword. If you have zero problems then count yourself lucky. The same could probably be said for most cars though

I have to say that i was surprised with the result of this survey and cannot help but feel that perhaps someone got the Fiat and Subaru the wrong way around. Having had a MY00 Turbo from new I have had no problems bar a failed heating matrix in three years, and I have to admit to thrashing the pants off it everywhere I go, seriously, everywhere.
I have been lucky enough to have had Golf GTis, turbo and non turbo, a Golf V5 (superb M-way car) and an Audi A4 2.4. All of which should be fairly reliable given their price etc, and all of which spent at least a couple of days in the garage for mechanical failure.
Perhaps I have just been lucky with the Scoob ? But I really do feel that it is nearly bullet proof, particulalry the way I drive it. I know I have been very happy and even now, having just attained the company car grade above the new WRX, will not be taking advantage of the higher levels and will plump for the new WRX in September.
I have heard rumours of the Legacy having transmission issues, and suspension problems, but these were mainly owned by farmers who actually used them off road. Perhaps this could be where the numbers are coming from ?
dan.

I own an MY02 WRX. After 500 miles 5th gear syncromesh went. I'd say that was poor reliability. ~(I was driving with wife and kids in before you say I was mistreating it!)
Luckily (and after a lot of hassling the garage) it was fixed under warranty.
Car's been fine ever since though (15,000 miles later)

"I own an MY02 WRX"
So do I - no hassles at 16K miles in 9.5 months. PPP fitted at 5K.
3 Previous Classic Turbos gave no hassles either.
This's just a strange kind of survey - Top Gear took the p!ss out of it; it's no big deal.

The reason that Subaru normally come top is that they are driven by people who love them to bits. This is reflected in the survey and provided the Dealer puts things right they leave fine and dandy.
My Scooby suffered numerous issues from clutch to synchro problems and well as trim issues etc. No other new car I have had needed sunch work but I still loved it.
