MY98 V's Alfa 157??
#1
Can i expect any kind of result?
Come to think of it, do VTR's GTi's stand much of a chance? Unsure of what i'm likey to beat. I got blown away by a Evo 6 last night, but it had all the trimmings, nice car. Mines standard 2000 turbo.
cheers

Do you mean an Alfa 147 or 156? Which model and engine size?
If you mean the new 157 all talk now is that there will not be an Alfa 157 they will go straight to the 158.
Some info on the 158.......
ALFA ROMEO 158
The GM 'Premium' platform based late next year. The entry-level version will be a 150hp 1.8 JTS followed by two all-alloy units, a 170hp 2.0JTS and a 190hp 2.2 JTS. The new Orbital/Fiat-GM Powertrain 'Electron' alloy V6 engine which has been heavily revised by Alfa Romeo engineers will come in two specifications: a 230hp 2.8 V6 JTS and a 260hp 3.2 V6 JTS.
Topping the range will be a 300hp probable 2.2-litre capacity supercharged engine while the GTA will boast a twinturbo version of the new 3.2-litre V6 JTS with 400hp. For Alfa Romeo's North American comeback in 2006/7 a US-aimed GTA version will feature Maserati's 4.2-litre V8.
Diesel options will come in the shape of an entry-level 120bhp 1.9-litre unit utilising second generation Multijet technology, a higher-specification version with 160bhp, followed by a 200bhp 2.4 Multijet and a range topping 3.2-litre Multijet with an expected 245bhp on tap.
Thus the model line up will be as follows:
1.8 JTS 150cv
2.0 JTS 170cv
2.2 JTS 190cv
2.8 V6 JTS 230cv
3.2 V6 JTS 260cv
Quadrifoglio 280cv (4WD)
GTA 400cv
GTA (USA) 430cv
1.9 MJTD 140cv
1.9 MJTD 160cv
2.4 MJTD 200cv
3.2 V6 MJTD 245cv
All the 158s will be rear wheel drive except the Quadrifoglio but the Sportwagon version will offer the option of 4x4 for all models over 2.0-litre.
As Alfa Romeo gear up to take BMW head on, so the size of the new 158 will increase, 180mm longer, 90mm wider but 30mm lower than the current 156. This will form a trend as the 147 replacement will be the widest car in its class.

I also own a MY98 2000 turbo - bog standard and also got blown away by an EVO 6. Still, they have got 40BHP more unmodified than we have.
Can have a lot of fun with the likes of Sunny GTI-R's and BMW drivers.
Look out for those astramax vans- wolves in sheeps clothing! Especially when they have the grey plastic tubing on the roof and the pre-pubescent plumber with baseball cap on wrong way round, and more earrings than brain cells!

I now have a MY98,and my previous car was a 147,
the cars are not comparable, entirely different, just not worth even trying to compare
147 handles wonderfuly for a fwd hatch, gear change and skitty ride on 17s only real weakness,except...................weight and power
A MY98 weighs the same, but prolly comes with at least 240 bhp with a decat
but the Scoob will cost a lot more to run
2 very strange cars to compare

dba,
If we are talking about 147's how about the 250bhp GTA.
A UK Scoob would have it off the line, twisties, rain etc. but I would expect the 147 to be quicker once moving on straightish roads. Max speed around 155mph.

a My98 for 8k,and a GTA for 23k
if i spent the 15k on the Scoob i doubt the GTA would catch up
if fact, even with the scoob as standard,i doubt there would be anything in it,dry wet or track
p top w Classic Scoob still has an edge to due lardiness of the GTA,then equalized with transmission losses? dunno, but i doubt anyone will shop for both on at the same time anyway
lovely car the GTA,

WhatCars value projection for the 147GTA after 12 months is £13495 .
Second hand bargain.
The 147 model for model is heavier than the bigger 156. The 156 makes use of light weight alloys especially in the suspension. Even the seat frames are magnesiun in the 156. But I would still expect the 147 GTA to have the legs on a standard UK Scoob at higher speeds.
My Scoob was a pretty even match with my mates 156 2.5V6 at speeds of 70mph+ I think the GTA would be a lot quicker.
The scoob is not built for high speed acceleration.
Cheers

14k is an incredible price!! new MINI or 12 month old GTA??!!

I'm fairly new to this game, but u guys have given me an insite. Just after getting my Impreza Turbo 2000, a m8 of mine was on about getting an Alfa 157 yes 5, must be the new model. But dont think he's looking at a GTA, recon they must cost a fair wack. I think i'm right calling mine a MY98?? (UK 2000 Turbo, 98 model)??
anyhoo0
thats why the comparison.
Will a full decat and induction kit bring my (MY89) up to 240??
thanks guys..

Ted,
You will have to tell him there probably will not be a 157. Alfa will jump straight from the 156 to the 158. This is to bring the models into synch. They will have 148, 158 and 168
There is going to be a facelifted 156 towards the end of the year.
Should have 150bhp 1.8, 165bhp 2.0, 195bhp 2.5V6 and 250bhp 3.2V6 GTA. Also talk of 4X4 option and a 200bhp 2.0.
I don't like the looks as much as the current model.

er,you must mean its a R or S plate, and the Uk 2000 refers to the car being the 2 ltr turbo,i think If not and your car is a V plate then its a MY00,but i think from you've said its a MY98
why not just got with a centre decat and back box and see if thats ok,its a fast car as it is,and 200kgs lighter than a TT225,so its fast enough for most

The 147 is heavy for its size of car, even heavier than the bigger 156 and the 2.0litre has 15bhp less than the 156 making the smaller car a lot slower.
The 1.6 version will be looking at around 10 seconds to 60, the 2.0 is around 9 seconds. Mid range etc is only slighlty faster than a 2.0litre Focus.
In other words the scoob will leave it for dead. Not even in the same league.
