I thought I ought to check my oil today having covered almost 3000 miles from new. To my horror it was just below the low mark on the dipstick. I havent been driving particularly hard (with one or two exceptions) but is this useage normal in other peoples MY03 experience?
The service booklet states the next service is due at 10,000 miles (or 12 months) so it isnt going to be in the shop for a while.
Obviously it is going to need topping up now before any serious damage is done and the next question is can anyone recommend what oil I should use to keep the levels up? Something fully synthetic presumably but are there any specific types that are best?
Any help appreciated...
**I almost forgot, at the 1000 mile service the dealer put in fully synth 5W/40 "Mobil 1". Should I just stick using this rather than mix?

It is common for a car to use a little oil when running in.
I would top it up with Mobil 1 and monitor the situation.
If the car continues to use oil then take it back to the dealer - you can do this before 10k miles!
Since run in I have not had to top my STi7 on any occasion.
