No more Euro Import Scoobys?
#1
You may have seen my thread from Friday evening re: cancelled Evo 6 and maybe another scooby from Europe.
I've just phoned up DC Cook since it appeared in another thread, and Impreza turbos are not actually a listed car on their web site. They said that they could no longer source scoobs from Europe, and what's more it is no longer possible to even buy a RHD on the continent as a private individual. The lady on the phone said that Subaru had blocked sales because their dealers here are losing too much money.
Is this true? Is this even legal if it is?
Any other ideas on how I can source a cheap new turbo would be welcome.

£17K seems a bit steep considering you used to be able to buy them for £15.5K if you went direct. I tried calling them anyway to see if this price was negotiable and to check delivery times, but nobody is answering the phone.......which never inspires confidence!

I've been thinking about this for a while
There was a case that highlighted Euro price rip-offs a couple of years ago involving VW. Customers were going to Italy to buy their new VW at huge savings against the price in Germany and France. Once VW prevented non-nationals making purchases in certain countries the EU fined them something silly, £70,000,000 I think. Anyway, this issue was covered by EU law as the car was made within a member country of the EU group, and under the spirit (if not the letter) of EU law on restrictive practises the prices should be consistant.
Perhaps our friends at FHI get round the unequal price issue, and Euro sourced cars, as they do not have an EU production base and work to strictly controlled new car quotas, in which case refusing to supply a car in right-hand drive from Europe would be permissible under the current law
Just an idea, anyone have a clearer understanding of the law

For clarity suggest you call Andrew or Jos at the number below.
Picked my car up 10 days ago from Andrew, as did Neil Reay. Service was 100%, largish dealership and very enthusiastic - also saved around 5k. Recommended.

I have heard from a Subaru dealer in Holland that any orders he takes now will be for the MY2001 Impreza. He is not takling any orders until Subaru announce the price for the new shape car. After that it's business as usual.
Cheers,

Raj is right.
I ordered a MY00 on Friday from a dealer in Belgium. He told me that it was the last day for ordering this shape and any new orders would be for the new shape at a higher price.
There was no mention of unavailability for the UK market and I've saved a stash of cash.

Thanks for the info guys - it all makes a lot of sense. In previous years, the build of the next model year has typically begun in July. I expect the person I spoke to at DC Cook just wanted me to buy another type of car (that was her next question), and so fed me the line about Subaru no longer supplying RHDs on the continent.
If anybody who has a Euro import on order decides they don't want the car after all, then email me, and we can maybe do a deal once my house stuff is sorted out.
If I can't get another scoob and can't stretch to an Evo, then maybe an Audi S3 from

Now I know why dealers are paying up for used Imprezas and selling them on at such high prices. This is a plot to stop RHD cars coming into the UK. When the new model arrives it will be at the same price across Europe. IM know they will sell the cars at whatever price they are as long as the playing field is level. My advice to anyone wanting a cheap turbo now is to snap up one of the cheap used cars before the dealers have them all.
Does anyone with dealer insider knowledge have any more information about this?

Just spoke to
my father in law
who used to be a scooby dealer and he says your rumour could be right. IM are negotiating sole import rights for RHD cars so prices will be the same across europe - at the higher, not lower level. yes, should give a boost to second hand prices.

I have one on order from Holland, expected delivery in June. Does this mean that I will have to find an extra £6.5k? I hope not, because I ain't got it, and I don't fancy losing my £4k deposit!
The company I work for finances IM in the UK, I wonder if I can put a virus into their system?
