My annoying situation
#1
As you all may or may not know I am currently waiting for an 2003 STI from my local dealer, its there demo, so its currently sitting down at the garage doing nothing. The money for it will be available on Thursday to hand over, and my insurance starts on Friday, when hopefully I will be able to take the car home. However cause its there demo, they have to wait for another demo to come in before they release my car, which they are hoping could be Friday, if not begining of next week. Why can't they just release it and go without an STI demo for a few days. Still cost me 24k with only 144 miles on the clock, and STI mats, fitting of a dump valve, and the first service done before I get it, can't be bad. If I can't have it on Friday, am going out for a drive with the new dump valve fitted, just to tease myself some more. Chat to you all soon

That sounds like a load of **** to me.
Tell them that unless they release the car to you on friday then you don't want it.
Dealers like this p1ss me off, you are the customer, you're paying or have paid for the car so there's no reason for them to not let you have it.
Are they saying that if someone comes in fro a test drive that they will take them out in your car? F*CK THAT they're having a laugh.
Go get your car mate and don't take any **** from them, remember that you're the 1 in the position of power.

Yeah deposit hasn't been put down as the whole balance is being paid on Thursday, its weird cause I know they are a good dealership as they sold my brother his P1, and they have been good to me, letting me go out for test drives when its illegal against there insurance (only 21). The car is mine as I have the order form, and they are fitting the DV and mats and changing the wheels back to the original gold one (Horrible black ones at the mo). The mileage I checked yesterday is the same, so its not like they are using it. Is it going to be ok with this early service, they seem to think so, but any opinions from you lot

Yeah heard that to but this car has been treated nicely for all of its miles and I reckon the few time its been up to about 4500 revs its got all the little bits of metal out. Reckon they wouldn't offer it if it was going to cause major damage. Perhaps it will extend the run in time and keep the car tighter for longer, got to be good in the long run, less wear.

yeah think I may have a bit of a go along the lines of " I have paid for it now so its my car, therefore no one else can drive it so why not give it to me now" See where that gets me, any other views on the servicing front. Will post it as a different topic in Tech see if that makes anybody else take note

Yeah nice idea but my dad likes old cars like his morris minor and his old MK3 Golf GTI. Mums the same. This will be the most expensive car in the family unless my bros P1 is still up around there

Are you sure they don't mean they'll throw the service in with the deal but actually do it when you get to 1000 miles? We did that a couple of times for folk
With the car, I don't think you're in a postion, as yet to say what happens to it as you haven't put a deposit down it's still their car. Try asking them to not let it out, if that doesn't work try offering a deposit, failing that tell em if it's gonna be used for test drives they can shove it up their ****!

Yeah think I would agree with you on the car front, but I don't think they will let it out once I have paid the full amount on Thursday, will check mileage then as well. With regards to the service they definately said it would be given to me with the first service done. The dump valve I am getting fitted i a forge motorsport atmospheric one. Always wanted a car that goes Whoosh!!

If you pay for the car in full on Thursday then tell them you want to take it then regardless if they got their demo car in or not and just get your insurance to start on Thursday instead of Friday.
As said above if they don't let you take it then, after you have paid, grab your notes back and tell them they have just lost a sale!
Oh and I would wait until the 1000 miles is up. 144 miles is bugger all.

From what I remember, demos are supposed to have an oil and filter at the PDI (pre delivery inspection) due to the fact that they may have been "exercised" during that all important 1000 miles.
I would make sure that it has an oil and filter change and then comply with the running in requirements up to 1000 miles.
At the 1000 miles service I would get another oil and filter done after which I would feel comfortable giving it some!
Hope that advice is useful!

PS Enjoy your car - don't crash it as my premiums at 37 years of age are enough thankyou!

Cheers for that info, think I will let them do what they want to it and then change the filter and oil at 1000 just to make sure, can't cost to much. As for complying with the running in requirements, I don't think that is going to be a problem, as I am coming up from a 1.4i Pug 206 so its going to take some time getting use to the speed, so I don't think I will be flawing it anywhere, will keep you all up to date, and hopefully see you all soon. Any more views keep them coming my opinion is you can never have to much info.

Yeah I know I will be the second hand owner, but the dealer reckons quite a few are sold like this especially the silver ones due to the car itself being in high demand. He doesn't reckon there will be any major fall in depreciation due to the fact thats its only done 144 at the dealership, and most of these where when the old guy in sales took it home for the weekends to run it in. As for the servicing didn't want to go in tomorrow, as I tease myself everytime I do, but I reckon I will, just to see what they say about the servicing. Thanks to all for the advice and I'll let you know the outcome.

Mate once you've paid for it then it's yours.
They have no right to say that you can't have it.
Call you insurance company tomorrow, get the insurance to start on Thursday and take it Thursday.
You have to remember that you are giving them your business, they are not doing to any favours.
I get the impression from your posts that you feel as if your being a bit cheeky by asking for YOUR car.

What about taking delivery of 'your' car whe you pay for it, and then telling the dealer that if they get people in who want 'look' at an STI, tell them they can ring you and ask if you'd mind showing it off, what a buzz, you'd get to show off, and just see if that might 'earn' you a free service somewhere down the line!

I had the same situation with Audi a few years back. Basically Audi UK insisted that they (the dealer) kept the demo until the replacement turned up (and they knew when that was because they sent the replacement).
In the end I spoke to the dealer principle and I got the car early and he kept the V5. When the replacement demo turned up I collected the V5 and Audi UK didn`t know anything about it.
I don`t know what Subaru UK are like but Audi UK are very strict with their dealer network, I`ve even heard of Audi UK executives arriving at dealers without warning to do inventory checks, one guy even got the push for not toeing the line.

from a 1.4 pug to and sti 8 at 21 - win the lottery ?
M8, get the insurance sorted first, go to the dealer with the cash, tell them heres the money, i take the car now, otherwise i'm, going to another dealer with THIS CASH over the weekend and i may well buy one from there.
I reckon that sort of approach may move em a bit, especially if they think they could lose the sale

I agree with Simon on this. My understanding is that the dealers are compelled to operate a given number of demo cars (including Isuzu range).
Demos qualify for a package of discounts, delayed payment etc. As a result they are required to retain them for a period of at least 3 months.
These issues are not your concern.
Pay for the car and take it away. Once you own it wheather it's fully insured or not is your concern not that of the dealer!
I would not allow a potential customer to sit in let alone drive my car. When I bought the last one I insisted it was moved from the showroom back to the compound before I left. Didn't want people leaning on it and kids sticky fingers all over my upholstery.
If they won't play ball pick up your cash and tell 'em your off home to log onto the Subaru site to find one who will.
