Hi all,

Are you sitting comfortably this is amazing.

After dropping of my motor yesterday with a Subaru dealer in North Wales to have the MAF sensor replaced (under warranty) due to eratic idling, i recieved a phone call this afternoon telling me i could pick up my car, I was then told there was going to be a charge of £58.00 for 1 hour of labour to diognose the fault, i repilied with "but it is under warranty" he then said "warranty work does not cover finding the fault and i would have to pay before they would release the car". I said fine i will be up in a couple of hrs to collect the car

I then telephoned IM (Subaru UK) and spoke to the warranty department who informed me that the warranty paid for everthing and he had never heard of this situation before from 120 dealers across the country. Then he realised i had a Subaru Proven warranty and told me to phone them, but still said i shouldn't pay for anything. I phoned Mundial warranty who told me they had authorised all payment to replace the sensor and i should not pay anything.

I then phoned the dealer back who was still adamant i should pay, he then said it had taken them 3hrs to find the fault but they were only going to charge me one hour out of courtesey. I said "it doesn't take 3hrs to find out the MAF sensor is faulty he said it did as the select monitor wasn't showing a fault so they had to check all the wiring in the car.

I telephone Subaru UK again and spoke to a manager who insisted i should't pay for anything, he then gave me the number of the boss in this dealership and told me to phone him and explain the problem, which i did. We arranged to meet at the garage later to sort it out. When i arrived i had a meeting with him in his office and he said that they had telephoned the warranty company and they said that i had to pay for the diognosis (really confused now). He then asked me (THE BEST BIT) is your car a UK turbo or a Japenese import???? this question i could not belive. He then phoned them again in front of me and they agreed to pay as long as the technicians report was there to prove what he had done for 1hour looking for the fault as they told me on the phone it should take about 20mins to diognose and replace a maff sensor.

So to end it all i left without paying anything, they are going to look into it further but what sort of warranty is it when you have to pay to diognose the fault. I was speechless with what had gone on in a Subaru dealer today when i had purchased a just over 2 yr old scooby with a warranty fron Subaru on it and they were trying to get me to pay for diognosis.

Sorry for going on a bit.

Cheers James.

James it sounds like your dealer is a joker. A simple warrenty claim shouldn't have to turn into such a dragged out affair.

Question

Name and shame here please for the sake of the community- we all need to know about these type of people. It is within the T&C's to name these people.

What I can't believe is that they said they spent 3 hours on it Any decent workshop would have suspected the problem before you had finished parking and would have diagnosed it with a Select Monitor in less than 2 minutes. You should have been back on the road before you had finished your coffee.

I suspect that they did spend 3 hours on it but are only being paid £29 by Mondial (warranty co's don't pay full price) so the charge being made to you was an attempt to recover some of the extra time logged against the job.

Please do name them.

James – name and shame !!
I think the dealer in question will be the one close to me. I would probably have to use them if a fault occurred with the car and wouldn’t want to go through that sh1te you had, to get a fault fixed under warranty !!!
Name them and if they get to read this they may not be so keen to try and rip people off in the future.

The dealer in question is Threeways Abergele, they were not to impressed with me for kicking up a fuss not sure what is going to happen about it now, and also not to sure whether to go there for my servicing, as there isn't another one near by to me

The dealer most probably has a hourly labour rate of £50 per hour, your chocolate warranty company will not pay £50 a hour, they normally agree to half £25, in this case you would have to pay the labour difference.

See this one all the time, blame the chocolate warranty company not the dealer.

Ive had warranty companies argue with me over a frickin £1.

My chocolate warranty is with Subaru even though it is an extended warranty, i purchased the car from a Subaru dealer at just over 2yrs 5 months old and it came with warranty and breakdown assistance (so to me it isn't extended it is a warranty Subaru provided on one of their used cars) and i was told that i had 12 months worry free motoring (obviously not the case).

Even though it is classed as a Mundial warranty it says in the booklet it is a Subaru warranty which is just administered by Mundial, it refers to "us we" as being Subaru U.K

No worries Codhead, may as well of been an aftermarket warranty with the way it has been handled.

Ooooops, that’s narrowed it down a bit – there were only two dealers in North Wales anyway and since one is now an Alfa …………………..
