Buy the HKS Hyper Dragger. My one is so loud
you need serious ICE just to be able to hear it.Pedestrians for hundreds of yards look round searching for the dragster going down the street.I have seriously considered ear plugs on long motorway trips it is that loud...amazingly the boys in blue have not yet stopped me....but then it is a glorious sound so perhaps they like it as well.. Build quality is excellent I expect it will out live the car and me as well..Sad I know but I wouldn't sell it ever!

Super Drager is the Road Sensible version of the exhaust
Hiper is the big loud one - HOWEVER - internal diameter of the muffler is not as big as the centre and rear pipes
It is loud, but with a well tuned car - e.g. Possum and Sti - it is very bearable and with the matching HKS induction kit makes a beautiful noise from inside the cabin at full throttle. A sort of raspy, throbbing, whistling kind of sound - quite exquisite.
I have the Hiper and have never been stopped by boys in blue - and all indications are that it makes the engine breath very well.
The Hiper made a bigger difference than the Induction kit - although that is not absolutely calibrated.

Is the Hyper Drager bigger than the Super Drager? I guess it is. The WRX Wagon I'm about to get apparently has a Super Drager on it, and I'm wondering how loud it would be.

Oh Dear........
Unfortunately when I hear a loud exhaust coming down the street I just think TOSSER - there you go... no if's or but's.
ALL of my mates, and people at work think the same, so I'm not in minority here. Just who are you trying to impress? 16 year old's tossing over Max Power?
DON'T DO IT - you give the Impreza a bad name - it really is becoming the next XR3i and its so sad

Dr Hu:
I do agree with you, hence my question about loudness. I don't want to appear as one of the Max Powet krew. I certainly did not request the SuperDrager on the car, it was put there by the previous owner. If I really dislike it then I'll remove it.
As you know from our discussions about Dog guards, I like to consider myself a responsible adult and certainly not one of the puffa jacket and backwards cap brigade!

Hiper is just under 5" and is pretty loud. Sounds good, looks.............big.
If you have a black car with blacked out windows and gold wheels and a hiper the only thing missing is the strobe light and bass tube and then you're all set

Must turbo cars dont make that much noise unless u bring them on boost. My cars pretty darn loud but nothing compared to bringing it on boost. So if you think plonker when u hear a loud car thats fair as its probably being zoomed in a 30 zone. But if u just think plonker because it has a sporty exhaust thats a bit lame. All old cars used to sound sporty and raspy and they aren't plonkers driving them.
Loud is fine aslong as its not REALLY loud. A friend used to drive his "xr3i" hahah with a four branch manifold and nothing else. There u may call this lad a plonker.
You couldn't hear a GRID of super draggers or whatever they are if he drove past

Currently running a UK MY99 complete with a Prodrive performance pack, HKS Induction kit, Scorpion downpipe, Magnex centre pipe(all de-catted) and a Blitz backbox.
I must admit that this system is a bit on the loud side, especially on any motorway journeys, but when your in the mood and you want a bit of fun down your fave B roads its sounds absolutley awsome! Deep and rasspy, loads of popping and backfire.
Oh well better go down the newsagents and get me latest copy of Maxpower, NOT!
Cheers

Back to topic - I forgot to mention that although the Hiper is noisy - it is not anywhere near as noisy as the Blitz in car - this is a very noisy exhaust.
Another exhaust I have experienced is the Mongoose - this is noisy outside - quite inside.
The only one I have not experienced is a SS!!!!

Thanks all for your interesting comments, i'm surprised the muffler has a smaller diameter when its the more expensive pipe, perhaps you're penalised for wanting a quiter can..........
As for Dr Hu, well you're entitled to your own opinion, but i buy noisy exhausts because i like the noise, they normally mean less restriction and less noise reduction therefore more BHP.
I like the bit about giving the impreza a bad name, becuase i want to buy a loud exhaust am i suddenly the next worst thing to a car thief from reading your opinionated post.
If personalising my car with a loud can means i enjoy it more and even better it reduces the chance of theft (which thief would nick a car that sounds like an F15 at full chat when there's a very quiet standard one down the road) then thats my choice and not subject to your approval.
Are you actually trying to say that by purchasing aftermarket performance products i am giving it a bad name ?
If thats the case, i think theres quite a few people and companies here that would beg to differ.
I bought my impreza to enjoy driving it fast and slow, to improve an already good car to a better one.
Did you buy yours for trips to the golf club and polishing on a sunday morning ?
As for becoming the next xr3i, in some ways its already there, its Britains number 1 target for vehicle theft, and if the advent of the 'max power' brigade as you put it, means more/better quality/cheaper prices for after market parts then I for one am not saddened by that.

Hi ptholt I think we are on the same wave length here .
To set the record straight.
I did not buy the hiper it was on the car when I bought it. At first I seriously considered changing it but I soon got used to it and it does sound great.
The car is an Sti and I do have an induction kit and the car has been remapped, and benefits from a turbo timer now producing 310BHP etc There are no external mods barring the fact that the car is debadged.
Dr Hu I admit to exaggerating slightly to keep the thread amusing but I do object to being classed as a Tosser I am not trying to impress 16 year olds "tossing over Max Power"
....you seem fixated on the subject for some reason...
Markus do you really give a "toss"(that word again) about what other people think about your car ,Buy it to drive , it is not to pose in if you want that its the wrong car.
you will get stared at by enthusiasts regardless of your exhaust lets face it you are making a fairly bold statement having a WRX anyway.
Finally if the car has become affordable and is to be the next "XR3i" so what! if this offends you go and buy something expensive .I thought the whole concept and the appeal of the car was the fact that it is the probably the ultimate bargain priced practical supercar available and not a status symbol. As a last shot before I go and get my coat so to speak Why is everyone so anti Max Power here?? ,they love Scoobies and have great and original cars featured regularily OK it is a sexest cliché in some ways but not worthy of the scorn exhibited here surely!

As you said, 'buy the car to drive it, sod what anyone thinks' (ok, so I'm paraphrasing what you said, but it's really the same)
This is what I intend to do. I would not, as you also have pointed out, have got a scoob to pose it, I don't feel it's that kind of car.
I'm certainly looking forward to the whole scooby experience.
