I have on my possession a set of keys from a London dealer’s forecourt......... story goes like this…..
I arrive at my ex girlfriend’s father’s pub which is next to a well known London Subaru dealers, I park and then go to look at a P1 on the forecourt.
This is at 7.30pm and the dealers shut at 5pm (door sign)
I find a 1999 wagon running with keys in ignition, boot open, not a sole about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have locked up said car, taken keys for safe keeping and posted note through letter box giving my tel. no.
Should i name and shame? I have a Jap import...should i push them for a "reward"
This is totally genuine with witnesses, most of which wanted to take the car for a "spin"
God i wish i was a crook!!!

I'd suggest you might have been better telephoning the dealership or if no reply then the police.
You could be putting yourself in a tricky position, who's to say that their wasn't somebody about to return and sort this out from the garage? And was simply delayed?
I dont think your in a strong position to look for a reward, thats not to say you dont deserve one though.
Remember you will probably be on cctv removing the keys anyway, be careful with this one mate- you dont want it to turn and bite you on the ****!
Glim.

I knocked on the door for 30 mins, no reply.
I have no intention of holding them to ransom
I have done them a favour, would like one back thats all.

From: R.I.P Piphead, at least you are home now :(
I would call the police too, and at least let them know what has happend, the dealer may have come back, and reported a theft of keys to the Police, you never know, unlikely but you dont know

Remember their is the crime of "theft by finding", no bull!
Let the cops know youve got the keys and keep yourself right, they'll probably take them off you for obvious reasons.
Your dreaming if you think youll get much more than a free tank of sul and a hand shake.
Glim.

You do a good deed and you get the third degree..
Have called police,....took me 3 attempts to explain that i was not reporting stolen car.....
They then insisted on doing a phone trace.......only after explaning that i already have a subaru and i felt an obligation.. they noted down what i was reporting.
Still have keys though
I am pissed but not that pissed.............

LOL
It takes a bit of extra inteligence to understand an event that isnt the norm, failed on that test didnt they.
Why do you want or expect a reward? isnt doing a good deed enough? or am i being old fashioned again?

Only just read this, but it's interesting how differently people can perceive, or interpret the same situation.
My immediate reaction was to call the police, thinking that whilst the person in charge of the car may be a muppet, he may also be in need of some "assistance" !!!
I hope it turns out he is just a muppet. The thought of someone needing the assistance of the police, or medical services, whilst someone was more concerned about posting of his "good deed", and "reward", is somewhat unpleasent.......

Maybe, in hindsight (I know it is easy to comment with that) you should have phoned the police whilst at the forecourt and let them deal with it from there.
Have the police given you an update on things? Did they take the keys off you?
