OK. No laughs or p1ss taking please! Here goes.....
How much quicker does a 300BHP Scoob actually feel to standard on normal (open) roads? Is it really worth the cost in terms of how much the car can be safely used on the road?

A 300bhp scooby is a lot faster than a standard scooby and it feels it too
Its enough to be more than noticeable on the road driver for driver. The other consideration is that usually with the extra power comes quicker spool up (if you pick your mods right), etc which helps

200 BHP feels quick,
300 BHP feels really quick!!!
what more can be said
if you put the 2 on a track, the differnce will soon become clear

How about selling all the bits, staying fairly standard, and spending the money on rally and track days, and driving tuition.
No messing, serious!
Not saying that your driving is bad mad, but I know I have benifitted from some advanced driving tuition, and would love to be able to afford a few rally/track days to compliment it.
A well driven standard scooby would beat a badly driven faster scooby any day,
chris.

You've got a point Chris but I'm a tight wad and I can't help feeling that if I "buy" track days etc, its a waste in the long run. A couple of hours of fun doesn't seem good value at the prices i've seen. Got a Prodrivelive day coming up though! What I wouldn't mind however is some advanced driver training. You'll have to let me know who the fella is that you use. That would be worth while!
I still think you think my driving is bad though!! LOL!

It's far better value to learn to drive better than to take the 'easy' option of just getting a faster car. A few track days may be worth 100bhp in real world terms as you can drive much faster, safer(less crashes), smoother(use less fuel) all for the cost of a few hundred quid. To get that sort of on road performance gain you've got to spend a lot lot more.
Apart from anything else, you'll have a whale of a time on the track.
Tuition even better value. And they both stay with you forever! how 'long term' do you want

Obviously a better option is to do the track days/tuition AND buy a faster car

But do we all have something to learn from advanced tuition?
Is it not possible to be a very good, fast, safe driver with just experience and intelligence? If so, is it not a waste of a few hundred quid?
Not saying i'm a great driver, but I do wonder how much I could really learn, and whether I could justify the cash outlay???

Dracoro, spot on, that is exactly what I meant, and SULLI, who did you learn to drive off? BSM? PASS FIRST TIME? Did they teach you how to handle a car on a country road at 100mph? Did they teach you how to drive fast and smooth, and be ultra aware of what is coming ahead and behind you at all times? I don't think so. We learn by experience and taking from others who are better than us.
We are always learning, or should be, no-one knows it all, and even the safest fastest drivers in the world have accidents. So, in my opinion, it is better to learn to drive what you have really really well first, and then increase the power when your skill exceeds the cars ability. And who can honestly say they can drive thier car on the "EDGE" at this point in time........safely!
I know I can't, and according to the mentioned advanced driving instructor, I am a good driver.......safe, so not so fast, but good. (his words, not mine)
Mad, I really am not here slating your driving ability, from what I have seen of your backside (scooby, of course) you looked well in control to me, and a good driver.
But wouldn't it be satisfying if I came to YOU for driving advice?
chris.
ps I will get in touch with Terry, the instructor, when I get back from my hols, and see if he is prepared to take some of the South Mcr lot out on a run for evalutation.

You'd be VERY surprised how much you'll learn!
Experience etc. is good, tuition is good. Add them together you're gonna improve.
The only people who don't need (or will benefit from) good tuition don't exist.
Take some tuition, then you can judge better how valuable it is.

The thing is, I know I'm not a great driver but i'm not a death trap. I learn more about my car all the time and i know there is a time and a place for a thrash. I doubt i've ever taken the Scoob anywhere near its limit anyway (ish!). I do drive quick sometimes. Chris knows this because he can't/chooses not to keep up (the latter seems more likely). However, i'd prefer to learn from experience than spend £200 odd quid on a track day (with insurance). I like to spend my hard earned on things that are for keeps! 3 track days or a TEK 3?????? I know which looks better from here!

I've had advanced driving tuition from my old man since I was 15 and learnt to drive, and on public roads since 17 - passed first time with one lesson from an instructor.
Have continued to learn from my dad, other people I know who have raced on tracks, and like I said, from experience, and the odd mistake!
I think the most important thing is anticipation, and not going beyond your limits - which I try not to do - and I drive, I think, intelligently.
If I had a few hundred quid knocking about i'd get further tuition, and would undoubtedly learn a thing or two, but not sure if I could justify that in place of a decent exhaust system, whcih would be more fun

In fact, I *did* spend it on trackdays last year. bloody excellent. learnt quite a lot about driving fast and also learnt about the wear and tear on brakes/clutch/tyres etc.
this year, I've got PPP and some trackdays booked. so will take it from there.
I found that putting better brakes on the car improved the overall speed more than anything. odd that.

Actually mad, I cant keep up you mad b**t**d!!! hehe.
Sulli, so you have been learning from someone else anyway, it just didnt cost you 'owt. Nice one. I wish I was so lucky with my old man, but he drives like he is on his test all the time, doesnt even cross his hands on the wheel ffs!
It has taken me buying a scooby to sort out my driving skills, and now I'm on my way. I will be going to a rally school later on this year, for my birthday, and will go out with the advanced instructor again for sure.
I also want to go on a skidpan, as this is one of my weaker areas, in a car, and on my pushbike! (don't ask!)
I think knowing what your car is like OVER the limit, is probably as important as knowing what it is like ON the limit.
Off to watch spooks now, thanks for the thread Mad, I am sure it will run for a while........
...mods versus instruction....... which will win.
chris.
ps.I have a BPM EXHAUST, and the neighbours are already complaining, know all I need to do is learn how to 180' handbrake park outside the house!!!!!
