Pictures - How do I??
#2
All it needs is two little "tags" either end of the web address of the picture.
For example :
I have found a picture I like, say the web page address is www.Ilikethispicture.co.uk and the picture is called thisone.jpg
If I right click on the picture within the web page and select "properties" I can see the entire address for that particular picture..
lets for arguments sake say it's "http://www.Ilikethispicture/thisone.jpg"
SO! I can NOW make it appear on one of my posts here, using what are known as "image tags".
Tags go before and after a particular section of your text and tell the web that you are putting up an image and not just typing text.
Tags are always put inside square brackets, [ tag goes in here ]
To make a picture appear you use "img" within the brackets.
You start with :
[ img]
please note I HAVE to leave a space between [ and img so you can see what I've typed, otherwise it will think I am entering a picture - when actually using the tag you DONT have any spaces
you then add your picture address, remembering that the FULL address doesn't start with www. it starts with http://
[ img]http://www.Ilikethispicture/thisone.jpg
To tell the internet that thats the full adress of your picture and you want to go back to typing, you use the image tag again, but with a "/" to denote thats the end of the address.
[ img]http://www.Ilikethispicture/thisone.jpg[/img]
If you've got something wrong, or as in this case the picture doesn't actually exist all you'll see will be a red cross, same as this..
If you've got the tags themselves wrong, say you've put a space in by mistake, or missed out the / in the end tag, it will display it all as text :
[ img]http://www.Ilikethispicture/thisone.jpg[ img]
Hope this has been helpfull!
We'll get onto uploading on another reply....

properties of a picture on a web site?
You have to hold the Left mouse button and drag the cursor over the address to highlight it in the properties box, THEN you can copy it by clicking on the highlighted section with the Right mouse button and selecting "copy". Try that
As for the address to send pictures to - if you use an uploader program then it will have its own web space for pictures but you'll probably find that the size of the picture will be restricted. There isn't just "one address" to send pictures too.
If you've got some of your own webspace provided by your ISP then the address for uploading to will be somewhere on heir help page, along with a suggested program to use and help on how to use it.
Failing all that e-mail me it and I'll upload it to my space and you can link to it from there.

Hi everyone,
Can somebody tell me how I can get pictures of my pride and joy into the members section?
Do I have to use a picture uploader or is there another way of doing this?
Thanks for the help in advance.

UPLOADING YOUR OWN PICTURES!
You can use pictures you take with a digital camera in exactly the same way as you use images from web sites.
HOWEVER! It's a common mistake to think that all you need to do is to put them on your hard drive. This will NOT work, you need some WEB SPACE !
Most people have a small amount of free web space provided to them by the people they use for internet access. Your ISP (internet service provider) will have on their homepage a link to a Frequently Asked Questions section, which will more than likely have a question about "My free web space, how do I use it?"
Basically you will have a web address for your web space. Mine is www.altro.karoo.net
You use a program called an "Uploader" to load your pictures onto your web space. The uploader will need to be told your username and password for your account, and the address of the place where the ISP will store the pictures that you upload - all this sort of information will be in the FAQ section. Your own username and password you should know!
Then is simply works the same as anyone else's pictures, using the image tags.
ie [ img]http:/www.altro.karoo.net/picturename.jpg[/img]
Please note - this also works for little animated files, or .GIF 's

Buzz
I think the mods need to keep your explanation of uploading and posting pics. The best explanation i have seen.
Mods take note of this thread and pass it on to anyone who needs the explanation.
Well done Buzz, you do the "Buzz" race proud.

does for me again - what I did was copy the address of the pic from your post, pasted it into the address bar of the browser then viewed the image directly.
Then I looked at this thread again and it showed up.. until I left Scoobynet then came back. No idea why it does that.
