I've just got my first scoob, as some of you might know, but im experiencing a bad judder through the car when i pull away steadily in first, it only happens now and then but the whole car shudders when it does. Theres no engine trouble cos the revs etc are faultless but theres somethin there? At first i thought it maybe cos i wasn't used to the car but im 28 and never had this with other performance cars ive had. Anyone got an opinion or advice. Ta

Have it on my MY98 when it's cold and damp mainly. Tends to go away when the thing warms up.
Apparently giving a couple of "full bore starts" helps things by cleaning up the clutch plates etc or so I was told.
Strangely enough it's very rare that I get the judder

does it shudder all the time ?
Is it just when hot
is it just when cold ?
is the clutch slipping ?
personally i would get it looked at professionaly, bit of judder can some times be curered with a full on drag racing start, but if your clutch is fubar the flywheel may have warped as well, it may not be that, could be something a lot more expensive

It happens rarely but occasionally on my MY00. Again, only when cold and even then just for the first clutch engagement or two.
I read on this board that a couple have it on a bug eye also so it isn't limited to a particular MY.
I'll keep an eye on what you come up with.

Yeah but as it's rare it never happens when you want to show it to anyone. I think it's happened to me 2 or 3 times in 20k miles.
Also, what could it be? It can't be a worn out clutch 'cus it would do it all the time if that was the case.
If someone manages to resolve it then the rest of us may have a place to start.
I understand that a few people have had their clutch changed because of clutch judder but only when the judder is pretty much there to stay.
It's a bit like many people that very rarely their car turns over but doesn't start immediately. People have talked about this a lot. This is another item that can happen rarely - it has happened to me twice. Some folk have put this down to the throttle sensor being unsettled which can be put right by depressing the accelerator once before starting.
Could it be that these cars just have a little twitch every now and again? Dunno.

Peeps,
I was told this when my MY01 GX 'bugeye' had the problem.
Problem: Clutch judder especially when cold occationally when warm
Reason: Bad flywheel castings, apparantly the flywheel wears and 'expands' differently when cold and hot (it ends up 'warped' when cold and expands to near perfect when hot)
Solution: Replace Flywheel for 'proper casted one' (mine was under warranty @15K miles so they replaced to whole ca'bang)
Hope this sheds some light on it (or some sh*te on it)

When I first had my MY98 it scared me too.
Apparently normal behaviour and nothing to worry about.
Mine does it more when the weather is cold but is not unusual when I take the car out from cold start. Use a few more revs to stop it doing it and then it goes away after a few miles driving.
Ignore it. As we may say in the software game. It is a "feature"

I have had my clutch changed twice now under warranty (MY99, 45k) - stops it for a while then happens again.
Search for it on here and loads of people have had the same problem.

Yep very common problem. My MY00 is now on it's third clutch, dealers are now fitting what's called a Flexi Flywheel which more or less cures the problem.
I've also had problems with sqeeling release bearings.
I got the new design fitted to mine about 2K ago and it has reduced the problem to acceptable but not eliminated it. I've been lucky, all work done under warranty, dealers have been very good about it.
Oh and the new design has a much smoother ligher action.

I bought an MY97 a few years back with 53,000 miles and it had exactly the same problem, I took it back to the dealer and got a new clutch and flywheel. I think the clutch lining goes on this particular model.

MY00 70k miles - now on 3rd clutch. New clutch seems to make it disappear for a while, but it returns. I find that it goes after a few "quick" starts, and just live with it.
