Higher octane fuel is always better.
BUT high octane fuel is more heavily dependant on the condition of the ignition system (coils, lead, spark pulgs etc.) As it can take more energy to ignite the fuel.
This problem is often noted with LPG - which is about 102RON
This sometimes explains why some engines run rougher or miss-fire when running on high octane fuels.

00MY UK Turbo, used to run it on normal unleaded, but now Super unleaded but its not always that easy to find. Is it ok to run on Optimax or is that too much RON or whatever ? Any help appreciated thanks.

Optimax is good stuff, it's only 1 higher in octane than super unleaded (97 vs 98).
I've never heard of having octane levels too high, Jap fuel is 100 - 102 RON, but then they do have different ECU's.
I reckon you'll be fine with optimax.

Well, where I live,it's easier to find Super unleaded but Optimax is rare. Will it cause any prob if I fill Optimex sometimes when I find it? As I say,I have been running it with Super unleaded for day 1 I had it.It's 98 Turbo 200AWD.

Hi Matt,
Same as you MY00. I run Optimax and the car is more *lumpy* at low revs (like its running rich or something), but defo. pulls better higher up than with NUL or SUL.
Car is currently (except for a back box) unmodded.

Generally you cant have too much RON, unless it is achieved like aviation fuel with lots of additives which get deposited inside the engine. Optimax is theoretically 98.7 RON and is good for preventing detonation. SUL would also be alright in your car though if it is standard tune.
