I was passing a 40 ton lorry when it began to move a little into my lane, I hooted & it slipped back. We drove another few hundred metres & I'd gone past it when
Edited because my grin failed.

Minding my own business on the way home tonight down the A14 between the A1(M) & M11...
Traffic was heavy, so I was in the outside lane doing approximately 55mph...
I was passing a 40 ton lorry when it began to move a little into my lane, I hooted & it slipped back. We drove another few hundred metres & I'd gone past it when
CRUNCH
GRIND
SCRAPE
The bugger had swerved into my lane by quite some distance, collided with the rear quater & was forcing me towards the central reservation
Bit of countersteer, hit the horn & fortunately he realised & swung back...
We both pulled over to a petrol station that was just ahead, whereupon I discovered to my horror that the truck was German registered Whats more is that the driver could not speak ANY ENGLISH
I don't speak German either but instead of offering to exchange details he tried to give me £300 for the damage - as if.. Called the police as I didn't want to get it wrong but after 45 mins they rang & said that they were busy with a major accident further up the road. We bought a camera a-piece & took photos of the damage, each other & our vehicles. Fortunately a Scotish trucker turned up, who spoke enough German to get the guy to get his insurance, driving license & other details out - duly photographed Phew!
1st accident for 10+ years & totally not my fault I just hope that the insurance companies can sort it out together...

Gutted... I had an incident like this and it took the photographs to prove my case the other driver claimed that I "hit him up the back when he was in the outside lane" !!! So that's why there are tyre marks on the side of my car then!!!
Hope all goes well and that the wagon is back on the frontlines again soon!!

Sorry to hear about it,but thank goodness it was not a lot worse. I think you ought to go to a police station and make a statement about it for your own protection. You have to report an accident with damage involved and I think that your phone call may not count. Best of luck with it all anyway.

Leslie,
There is NO legal requirement to report an accident to the police regardless of damage etc.
However, Puff, if there are no independent witnesses speaking to the lorry being at fault, I would consider reporting it, to make sure that the circumstances are recorded with HIM being responsible.
Good luck.

Ouch!
Apparently this is quite a common occurence, a lot of LHD european registered wagons aren't required to have blind spot mirrors fitted with the obvious result that the drivers can't see cars in the outside lanes on a UK motorway
I see to recall an Alfa 155 that Evo were running being clipped, but it was turned across the front of the wagon & pushed sideways for over 200yds
