Better do something then before you run out of gearbox.
It is sometimes difficult to see the oil level though because the oil stays pretty clean.

you won't always "see" the oil if its squeeky clean.
Get your fingers grubby and feel for it
I found that the standard dipstick is a bit crap for telling gearbox oil level (must be teflon coated or sommat).
The last time I changed the gearbox oil I used a long cable tie to check the level - the seratted edge gives a great visual indication. Then just simply compare alongside the original dipstick to see if its at the max or min
that's my bodge it 'n scarper for the day
edited to say - don't drop the cable tie - you'll never get it out!! Unless you like stripping gearboxes as a weekend hobby
