I am wanting to give my engine a good clean, obviously I dont want to do any damage to my engine...........What bits/components would I need to cover to ensure that I don't do any damage?
Cheers

From what I have read on various threads. The battery, alarm housing and the intercooler fins.
When I get round to doing mine this is what I will be covering up. For reasurance look through the threads in the members gallery, theres been some recent regards this subject.

I agree the alternator, is important.
I have an old scooby enginned jetwashed by someone that does a lot of scoobies and the alternator ended up still working but being noisy. The garage guessed straight away and I could claim it on the warrt - had to buy a new one.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. I used a bag for the K&N and a bag for the alarm and a piece of card to cover the intercooler, then all hell broke loose with the power washer ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Mine was a right state when i started and came up really well, with no engine issues.

The only reason why it's suggested you cover the intercooler is if you're going to go mad with a pressure washer. The pressure of the water in this case can bend the delicate aluminium fins.
If you're just going to use a normal hose and elbow grease, no reason to cover it up.
In fact, it's well worth going out of your way to clean the IC, getting all the dead bugs and crud out. The only proper way to do it though is to take it off the car, turn it upside down, and hose/shower it through.
