STI8 2 DOOR?

Im sure a 2 door shell would be a lot more rigid base for a WRC car, and that it would be more rigid with a cage in than a 4 door.
Otherwise why would Prodrive convince Subaru to use the 2 door classic for the WRC car base? when they would be selling more 4 door cars?
Im sure at the time david lapworth said the torsional rigidity was up about 5-10% with the 2 door wrc car over the 4 door group A, simply due to the lack of 2 rear doors.

The donor shell has a lot less to do with the strength of the WRC car than it used to. Roll cage design has moved on enormously since the 4 door RA was rallied by McRae.
The current roll cage, before it even gets fitted into the car and welded can take the force of a 10 tonne weight sat on top of it and still hold together, once that is welded into the car the strength goes up again. The shell is also seam welded which increases rigidity.
All the suspension pickups have links to the roll cage in some way or other, go take a look at a prodrive WRC car and study how they built the cage, the attention to detail is amazing.
The STi Classics have a more rigid shell than a standard UK car due to the solid bulkhead across the back seats, the bugeye shell had this plus lots of other improvements in all its model range, it also has a lot more weight, especially up front due to strengthening panels etc.
