Question

Can anyone remember the reason why the P1 was officially classed as a "Supercar". If I remember rightly, it being classified as such let it get away with something that it wouldn't have otherwise...............

I'd guess noise regs. Didn't the noise regs help kill the production of the escort cossie?

It had to be able to accelerate between two points in xxx amount of time. If it did this then it was termed a 'Supercar'. This then allowed a more generous emmissions limit. IIRC.

Just as well IM took all the good stuff off then (gearing etc) otherwise it would have been a 'Super Dupa Car'
