This must be a common problem cos my last two scoobys have suffered from the drivers window not going up properly.

Easy enough to fix but i just wondered whether anyone else has had this problem.

I asked about this and was told it's something you have to put up with by the dealers. I have to open the door and then close the window to get it to fully close. Is there a fix?

I have a problem with my drivers window - the automatic shut off doesnt work when lowering the window, it seems like it wants to come through the door.

Been told that there's a broken cog or something in there that just slipping past another when it gets to the bottom. I've not had the door apart yet so not had good look for myself.

If anyone else has had this problem - is it easy to fix? I've enquired at the local dealer, and it's going to be around the £200 mark, but for that kind of money I'm happy to stop the window myself...

Simple fix: Remove your door panel and the polythene cover, there is one screw that secures part of the mechanism that brings the window down. So remove all the necessary then reconnect your window controls.

Look for one loose 8mm??? maybe 10mm bolt. Tighten if loose.

If, as it was one my first one, the bolt had come out completety (it was down inside the door). You need to line up the two holes and re-insert. The problem occurs when the window tries to come down too far and the bolt gets pushed against the metal part of the panel (making it loose or fall out). This may also be the reason the auto-stop mechanism doesnt work. If you need further help, let me know and ill post more in the tech section.

Its a recurring problem, probably needs doing every 12 months or so. Depending how often you use your window.

Thumbs up

Everyone might like to know that there is another common fault with
the front windows on pre 2000 cars. You can get vertical scratches appearing on the window glass which is caused by a faulty bush within the mechanism, if the cars still under warrantee subaru will replace the glass and bush free of charge!

Cheers for that!

I think my last scooby had that but i think im scratch free at the moment on my MY98. But handy to know.

Is it an expensive fix "out of warranty?"

Talking

I wouldn't imagine that the bush is very expensive to buy, and if youv'e got a bit of noddle you can probably fit it yourself, the only bit to be careful with is removing the electric window switch fascia, it unhooks from the front and lifts up, at the other end is a stupid little plastic hook which will snap off if you lever it off the wrong way! Been there ****ed that!.........
