Exclamation

My P1 keeps cutting the boost to 0.62 bar max. It's done it 5 or 6 times now An ECU reset cures it but there's obviously something wrong so I don't want to just keep resetting it.
SECS shows no current or historic fault codes.

Car is fairly standard: prodrive bb, magnex centre, std downpipe, Forge recirc DV.

Peak boost is normally 1.15bar.

Car is usually run on Optimax + NF although I haven't been able to use NF for the last three weeks as I've run out and it's like rocking horse poo nowadays.
First did it after I put NUL in (3 weeks ago - all garages closed, running on fumes etc etc). Didn't cane it whilst it had the NUL in.

Anyone have any ideas why it would keep doing this? I'll take it in next week some time but would be interested in any theories beforehand.

Simon

Sounds like its going into limp home home - therefore it has detected a fault somewhere and as a result lowered the boost levels.

More than likely it will be the fact that you have used 95ron, and not had access to NF when running 97/98ron, alternatively:

It may well be this recent hot spell causing intake temps to rise higher than normal and resulting in a little det.

Alternatively it could be the infamous MAF sensor fault, causing lean running etc, and again det.

Best to get it to a garage and see what the select monitor comes up with.

Cheers

Iain

It is probably detting and saving itself blowing to bits.

Thanks John, suitably succinct and dramatic

Any idea why it might be detting? I can't imagine that a quarter tank of NUL 6 tanks ago could have that much of an effect. Last time I had the car checked it was shown to be hugely rich. Given that the car is pretty much standard what would be causing it to det?

Hopefully Tileys might come up with something - my only concern is that the Select Monitor will only read the fault codes that the SECS reads, i.e: nothing

Simon,
Sorry but JB's far more able than I to give you advice but to me I tend to agree with it detting

1)Detting

A) Confusing self calibration with OPtimax + NF then running NUL stick to one say Optimax or SUL + NF.
B) MAF/pressure or Air temp sensor Faulty giving the wrong info hence detting( not sure if detting shows SECs alarm just recalibrates).
c)non STD Induction and Spooling to quick shutting down to higher Boost (do P1's with PPP read the correct Boost on SECs ?)

2)Not detting

c)Knock sensor faulty or rattling close by

Tony

Ready to get ripped to shreads at least I tried

As Tony. Stick Optimax and NF in it at all times.

Subaru say they are OK on 97 RON. I've heard some with no faults or sensor problems detting on 97 RON on hot days. 95 RON is a joke.
