I run a totally unmodded MY98 Turbo with 60K and am looking for the pefromance boost, (and engine noise!) which a PPP provides.

Problems are:
- If I get the PPP it will cost 25% of the cars current value (approx £8,000)

- If I get an 'equivilent' mods from Scorpion etc there is no residual benefit on resale, and engine life could be reduced.

- Is there a third way by getting a second hand PPP?

Any ideas??

IIRC the 98 PPP had problems (actually reducing performance)

Plus the main benefit of doing PPP is that it is warranty safe...
Which you don't have to worry about anymore.

Better to get a nice big straight through exhaust and a re-map.

Cheaper and better performance.

Here here!

Get a downpipe, full free flow system with no cats, performance panel filter and ECU re-map and you should be seeing 270bhp-ish for about £1100.

Dan I think waht you read was that the magazine that tested a 97 PPP found it had slower 0-60 than the standard UK Turbo (it did 5.6 sec), but in the "real" world it was a quicker car due to the large increase in torque.
The same magazine tested a 98 PPP and did 4.6 sec 0-60 they also tested a 98 WRSport with PPP and found that to be slower (more weight?)
No 2 cars are ever the same.
FastBoy, trying to get a second hand PPP for a 98 will be just about imposible as the years before and after 98 wont work.
the cheepest way to get the same sort of power would be to remove the cats and fit either a Dawes device or change the ECU.

I went the PPP route - new car, scared of losing the warranty etc etc. If I was you, I'd go the aftermarket route. Cheaper and no warranty probs.

Cheers and good luck!

Andy,
I am afraid you are mistaken.

During 98 I participated in several rolling road days...
One of which had a guy who had had many problems with PPP that year.
It just wouldn't produce much power...on the days I saw it it
struggled to get 230bhp let alone the claimed 240/250, so
on the day he was down on other people with just a backbox change.

Subaru admitted to the guy that it had a problem with the PPP that year.

I think his results might even be on the dyno.scoobynet.co.uk site.

Don't know what the outcome was...

Cheers

Dan
