New impreza prices

Cataluyna 74, about three grand difference . No alarm, and limited warranty, big deal, that can be sorted for 500 quid! Subaru dealerships can't really explain why we should by their cars over european imports.

Let me help
Boro: No Interest to pay on a loan of 3K, and you don’t have to pass on your full saving to the second-hand buyer if they are buying it direct from you. I am sure the price will be well below garage resell.
Anyway by the time four years passes and the car is worth half its retail price it could be worth about 9k, that 3k more you paid is a quarter of its value.
So the cheaper you can get it the better, you still get the same Japanese car, Parallel import or uk import.
Don’t chuck good money away, you might even keep the car and pocket the whole 3K yourself, I can think of other things to spend 3k on i.e. MODS !

I can speak from both sides of the fence here.
In 1999, I imported an MY00 UK spec. Wouldn't have hesitated to recommend it.
In 2003 I sold it for slightly less than UK supplied cars were going for. Seller happy, buyer happy
I bought my WRX 5 door from a UK dealer. Why?
- EU spec does not come with airbag seats. THIS MEANS IT IS NOT FULL UK SPEC AND YOUR INSURANCE COULD GET NASTY. I cannot emphasise this enough - you must tell your insurance company of the exact details as it is not uk spec unless you specify airbag seats.
- Add on subaru assist 3 year cover at 130 quid a year - 400 quid...
- add on cost of 5 door abroad being more than premium over here
- take off discount from dealer
- add on cost of alarm
- [b]PPP cannot be fitted other than in country of origin by supplying dealer.
Difference in price is few hundred quid, if that. The bits on bold are things that may seriously affect your decision
Cheers,
Nick

There is a difference betwwen eu imported cars and what is imported from malta cyrpus ect EU as opposed to EC.
I have a MY03 Wrx from Belgium.
3 year EU warranty (Warranty with UK dealer comments accepted).
3 year EU Subaru Assitance Breakdown cover included.
PPP comments accepted, allthough my Belgium dealer says they can authorise a UK dealer to fit the PPP but the costs involved are not good.
No alarm, had a clifford 500 fitted with blackjax, window closure, boot release ect ect. for £450 considerably better than the Sigma M30 Subaru UK have fitted.
Mine has bucket seats and side airbags so is the same as a uk car. Insurance company didnt mind it was an import no additional charges.
I saved About 3k accounting for the alarm as well, I was saving a lot more when I originally ordered the car as the UK price Was 22k and the pound was a lot stronger in all about 6k I believe. Since receiving my car the pound has lost further to the euro and I would think carefully about ordering a EU car at the moment.
The cars at motorpoint ect are EC cars (Cyprus, Malta ect and have a 1 year Motorpoint warranty which is probably only worth wiping your bum with. IMHO.
As for resale values if I was selling my car in 3 years time and there is a UK car with the same spec. I could advertise my car at 11k would a buyer want the uk car for 14k, I dont think so the difference at sale time will be more like 1k - 1.5k difference in used prices. Still saving 1.5k over UK. and the added bous I didnt pay out the 3k at the beginning.
unless you are saving more then 1.5k with alarm extra warranty included go and battle it out with a uk dealer for the best deal. Shop around some will not be helpful others will bend over backwards.

I've just started hanging out a little here as I'm hoping to get my first Scooby later this year and I'm planning on getting a UK MY03 4 door from new. I was alarmed at your statement, but having looked at the Subaru website, I can't see where your fact comes from. The WRX 4 door is still a shade under £20k. Could you post the appropriate quote please.
Thanks
Arthur

I dont know why blackjaxx would invalidate anything, doesnt that just cut the engine after doors open/close?
I know i enquired about Intellistart and that DOES invalidate it, reason being, you have to bypass the immobiliser so that the car can start without having the key in it.

Chiark:
You have constructed a good argument against imports
You forgot the locking wheel nuts, EU imports don’t get them.
I thought we were in the EU, all sounds a bit protective of UK Garage interests.
About the airbags, the buggeye did not have them and I have the same seats as that, best you ask for a discount
Anyway
I still paid less for my car then you !!!!!!!!!!

When they installed my alarm it was CAT1 certified
I turned on the blackjax for higher security after consulting with my insurance company
So to recap: My car has a Clifford Concept 500 CAT1 Alarm and it is professionally installed, this provides a certificate for the insurance company.
Then you ask the insurer would it be ok to enable the Blackjax, if it is, turn it on.
Simple as that

Great responses fella's just what this site is about.
Thanks
Just a thought! if people avoided buying via uk dealers, would that eventually make the manufacturers lower there prices to the uk dealers, and then benifit us, or is our price higher due to taxes and VAT
If i bought a car direct from abroad, would i have to pay import tax & VAT when registering it.
Thanks

If you go to the for sale section and see an MY99 full UK model with 45K on the clock for 10K and see a MY99 EU UK spec for 9K with 45k on the clock. Both with no warranty as private sale. Both exactly the same spec both with same FSSH with the same dealer. Which are going to buy ?

must admit it would have to be at least a 2K saving after everyhting for me not to buy a UK car. The reason I have a grey import was that they didnt import type Rs and RAs and I wasnt prepared to pay 31.5K for a P1 plus I really wanted 4 doors.

You do not pay the tax in the country of purchase, you pay the vat at 17.5 % a few weeks after the car has been delivered.
here is a rough price breakdown at todays exchange rate.
exchange sterling
Euro Cost e20,598.00 1.42 £14,509.62
Agent Fee £195.00
licencing £180.00
Delivery £450.00
VAT £2,539.18
total £17,873.80
Add a Alarm £250 for a sigma M30 brings it too £ 18,125 and a 6 month delivery, in my opinion it isnt worth it considering you should be able to get a UK car for 19k pretty much straight away.

A work mate of mine has just purchased WRX 03 Four door with Met paint standard apart from that for £18750 on the road from a UK main Suburu Dealer, He takes delivery this Saturday with deals like this it seems pointless to go the import route at this moment with the exchnage rate going against the Pound .

Imports aren't worth it at the moment - but as an Import owner I take issue with some of the comments - if you saved 4-5k on an EU import MY01-02, I challenge anyone on here to find an ad in Autotrader where an EU import is selling for £4-5k more cheaply than the equivalent UK car. From what I've seen there's about a £1k difference MAX.
Also my car has the bucket seats, which don't come with airbags on the UK or EU cars. Subaru assist or locking wheel nuts - well I'd rather have the £4k I saved.
Warranty - 3 years Subaru PAN EUROPEAN warranty. Note the PAN EUROPEAN bit, because there is so much b***** going around about warranties. If you have a UK spec EU car, register it with IM, and any claims are put in by your local dealer to IM, who then pass it on to the Subaru rep for that country (eg Subaru belgium) for authorisation. Once this is recieved (and bear in mind Subaru Belgium have a better reputation than IM for customer care) then your local dealer is authorised to carry out the work. Where's the difference comapred to a UK car. I'm going through a warranty claim at the moment - and it's being put in by my local dealer.
As long as you don't get a Cyprus car of course...
