Basically sold my STI two weeks ago for a couple of reasons. One is i wanted a change from the AWD rally thing but also because i was getting annoyed with the impreza immage (dont shoot me). With the older impreza imports (93etc) becomming ever cheaper, the amount of times now i have seen scoobs full of lads doing stupid stunts (dont we all!) but these are in the wrong places i.e. built up areas etc, is just getting rediculous. Dont get me wrong 99% of scoob owners are top! its just these other plebs messing up the rep of a car which is quite prestige motor(for time being). But i cant only see this getting worse what with the falling prices of the impreza. I realise this is the same with all cars but seems to be worse with the scoob IMHO.
Saying that though nothing puts more of a grin on my face than a 'nice' scoob rolling down the road, and yes i do miss my old car. End of ramble and really dont want to offend anyone, just wanted to mention it.

Hi Shorla I know what you mean I live in leeds and see young lads in scooby's and Evo's all the time. they seam too young to own one of these prestige cars...I reckon either drugs or stolen? but yer can never tell.

The Insurance on these is a killer and owning one is not cheap so I can not see how these young tikes afford to run them?????

Morty, tell me this.....

Why is it that if a youngster has a nice car they must either be on drugs or have stolen it???

Maybe, just maybe some people actually have a decent job that allows them to be able to afford such a gorgeous car!

I'm only 23 so I'm far from over the hill but I've taken quite an objection to your post. I love owning a Scoob and I'm proud to be able to drive such a motor. The only bad thing is the ridiculous ramblings of folk like yourself that myself and many others have to put up with.

People of all ages can behave ridiculously in cars but I'd appreciate if you don't tar all young drivers with the same brush!!

Can't understand why people would sell up just because some younger peeps have managed to get an Impreza?
I know you said you wanted to sell the car anyway though
Seen a few posts with this, yet I don't see it on the road.
Even if I did see it on the road, I wouldn't contemplate selling up because of something I had seen!
Never bought the car because he or she had one, in fact I never knew anyone else with one when I bought my first one.

The Impreza image (classic or new shape)is getting even stronger by the year and it's got a hole lot to do with Scoobynet bringing like minded people together!!

No offence taken btw, just thought I'd add something constructive

Windows if you dont see it the roads thats great maybe ive just been unlucky. I did start to think of changing my car and then when you see a shead of a 93 scoob go sideways round a roundabout in broad daylight i just though **** it! Shame cos so far, other than the car i just bought it was the best car i ever owned. I would have held on to it a lot longer if it wasnt for my encounters with reckless scooby driving.

Whats wrong with going sideways round a roundabout in broad daylight - at least you can see that hopefully the road is empty, as opposed to at night, where there may be a sleeping pisshead or similar in the road!

Broaddaylight was a bad term, yes it was day and the roundabout is off a school. Trust me it was when of those moments where you just think t**t-we all at least one a day :]

Old BMWs get the same treatment and Mercs get tghe rude look to, but I don't see that stopping people from buying them.

If you thought you were buying into a cult car or exclusive club then you missed the boat about 3 years ago.

It makes me cringe when I see a bling'd up scoob with max power stereotypes behind the wheel but there's still nothing better out there to make me change.

It somehow seems unfair to blame the car for the sins of some of those who drive it. If you drive with respect for others then nobody will lay the blame at your feet. You are missing out on the ownership of something a bit special.

Seems to me you are too interested in what other people think... Maybe you should buy an Audi TT... peeps will respect you then fo being such a sophisticated person, with discerning taste... although i remember one of those doin a donut once... maybe a beemer... Oh no... they are too common... Merc.. nah... too dull... cossie.. nah battered... erm... saxo... nah done to death... seems to me that someone with your attitude isn't going to find a car you love!

Thumbs up

seems a shame too let your petty vanity stop you driving a wonderfull car....
I hear all the stories and there are indeed two other new Scooby owners in my home town now with lets say a lesser regard of the image of the marque than me, kira and Kyote..
But live and let live I say, immitation being the highest form of flattery.
And if you forget the artificially deflated prices here on SNet they still hold good value in the ,marketplace with 3yo models holding 50-55%, as the age increases of course the price decreases, but not as stratospherically as some of the members make out.
Are you sure there wasnt another reason as to why you sold up?

Really?

Again, my tuppence worth and no offence meant or taken, just redressing the (somewhat jaded) balance...

Put your hands up if you bought your Impreza purely because of it's image?

I didn't, I bought it because it offered the best useable performance, handling and practicality for the money, all £6k of it

hmmmm
u get rid of a very good, capable car becuase sum younger people drive them as well?

dont see the point in that at all, this whole thing about the image is *****.

"imprezas are now driven by scallys becuase there getting so cheap" is sumthing i here all the time from my nova owning mates - who gives a flying **** when the car is such a good car

personaly, i think this board is full of older turds who drive fast cars and are afriad to give the car sum serious grief, they will sit on here and winge about anything they can, regards to younger people "modding" them inaprop.

old gits, sort yourselfs out and move over

/me really couldnt care less what other people think

I agree mate!

My Scoob goes today and it breaks my heart.....I love everything about Scoobs and still get excited when I see them, but on to something different now.....Evo land!

Have I made a huge mistake?

Nah....I'm gonna love it as much as Scoob!

Enjoy your car whatever it is.....whatever floats YOUR boat is just fine!

Unhappy

Sticky,
its ashame you have that sort of attitude, no doubt your like the complete idiot who overtook us yesterday in his punto, now when i say overtook, i mean, overtook the van that was behind us, then us, then the car in front (by quite a way) of us, all whilst being on the wrong side of the road (a country road btw ) with a blind right hand bend (taking into consideration that he was on the right side of the road rather than the left).
I'll just come straight to the point..... With power comes responsibility, i dont think owning a high performance car and driving sideways around a roundabout in broad daylight near a school is very responsible is it? and if you say "oh there isnt anything wrong with that", well you need to look at yourself in the mirror and think "so im a good driver, responsible and capable, able to own a performance car and not be a complete to55er with it?", hmmmmmmmm........
Just think, if your child was coming out of that school and mr "i like to go round roundabouts sideways" lost it, taking your child with him......... no doubt you dont think of these things?
We have at one stage all done something stupid, but i think of the consequences before i do the action now, i think alot of people should start to think that way (especially insurance co's who should hammer young drivers on this sort of car as they dont have the responsibility by the sounds......)

Tony, not all young drivers are irresponsible!!!

Hopw many times do I have to say that on this site?!? I'm 23 and I don't behave like a muppet behind the wheel so why should I pay inflated premiums because you want to stereotype against young drivers?????

I'm sure there ARE young drivers who are stupid. I'm also sure there are OLD drivers who are stupid behind the wheel. Categorise these people as stupid drivers instead of young and old!

Oh well, here we are again

Steve It's simple you will have to keep saying it until you get of that soap box or the FACTS change.

Why is my neighbour's premium for a new CTR more than a 300bhp Scoob? He's probably safer and unlike me has no penalty points,
but the data shows the underwriters are taking a greater risk.

I'm prepared to give you credit, everything you say indicates your're a responsible and capable driver. Unfortunately the insurance industry statistics and contributors to this board show your peers are not.

yes, bought my scoob beause have wanted one for ages and couldn't afford the insurance until now, purposeful looks, performance, performance performance, four wheel drive, and it sounds like a nuclear warhead has just gone off under the bonnet when i floor it! it was this last point and the fact that day to day liveability is so high that i chose it over an evo 8. i couldn't care less that i probably look a bit of a tit when driving it (THAT sti spoiler!), nor the fact that the max power boys are starting to buy then now, life is too short to worry about little things like that! hope your new motor is making you happier, what is it by the way?

Thanks for that Banshi.

I get pretty irate when these comments arise. I have no penalty points on my license at all after six years of driving but insurance companies prefer to go on stats.

Looks like I'll just have to put up with that. I did think that members of this BBS would have a more open opinion but I guess not.

Well I should hopefully collect my first Scooby this week so what made me buy one? Well not an easy decision after being an S2 and Escort Cossie owner I can tell you ;-)

But to be quite honest the Subaru is a truely awsome car, you have 2 choices an EVO or a Scoob (I do like the RS Focus but I'm not waiting 12 months for one!). Now the EVO is almost certainly more prestigious/rarer and open for a debate I know a slightly more capable car, however I love the look of the Scoob and that's a personal thing.

I'm not aware of any image problem, no more than for any other performance car, my daily car is a BMW 330Ci and I get all the Pimp mobile jibes about that :-), my escort cossie days I got boy racer jibes its all part of owning a car that stands out a bit.

So I say stuff 'em and buy and drive what makes you smile and keeps you happy :-)

Another thing i'd like to point out, is that in one thread, people complain about boy racers having shopping trolleys, and driving them around, in another thread you complain about boy racers having high performance cars... You seem to think that scoobies are an elite class of car, that only the few people who bought them earlier should be privilidged to have. grow up... All marqus of cars have cheaper, and more affordable generations, that the bioy racers can afford... so accept it, and love the car you love! I love my MR2 Turbo... It gets a lot of stick for being a hairdressers car, but i love driving it to bits, and will not change it unless summit comes along that makes me cream in my jeans! there are a lot of boy racers in them, and i supopose I can be called one, as i like to drive fast, and race a 'bit', as you probably do, but why let it effect your choice of car?
You confuddle me... I will now lie down after a long, and nonsensicle rant....

I realise i have prob come across as a snob etc or an old git when im actually 22 and yup its prob cos of where i live that i have seen a couple of things. Basically the scoob for me is one of best cars ever made its not prestige its just amaizing-i love them to death and this web board is prob one of the best as well. Also if id just bought it i wouldnt give a flying s**te what other people do i just think part of the factor was i was looking for a change anyhow.
Dont really think my new car is important (no not an audi TT) cos it'll just get slagged no matter what it is. I think the fact that im still on this board post scoob ownership (like many others) says alot.
