What car is it on ???
A Power Boost valve is a very very crude way of increasing the boot of the turbo, It may have been OK in the Escort Turbo and R5 turbo days but with a scooby it realy isnt the way to go.
You will be alot better off with a ECU remap but you should get a full decat exhaust first.
As for a dump valve...what are you expecting it to do for you ??
Your car has a dump valve anyway, changing it will just give you a PSSSSSSTTT noise, no power increase.
Have a look in the Tech threads and read and read ,power is there for the taking but find out how to do it safe a power boost valve may not cost you much but how much for an engine rebuild ???

Thumbs up

If it's a Power Boost Valve you're on about, then that is an uprated fuel pressure regulator, which will do very little.

The dump valve will do very little.

Attu is on about a bleed valve. The short of it is, that it allows the turbo to run more boost. In theory, there is nothing wrong with these as long as they are used in moderation - many scoobies have used the Dawes Device (same principle as bleed valve) to good effect.

Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you have your fueling checked......

It's a 97 Turbo - Uk Spec.

Not interested in loud whooshing noises, just to get a bit more power out of the car without spending a fortune.

I've done a 57i air filter, and a JCW Racing back box already..

Hi,

Forget remaps yet if it's a 97.

Decat the thing first. That's the cheapest and easiest way to get more power from a near standard car. Then a Dawes device or similar is probably your cheapest next step. Electronic boost controller would be better but is 10 times the price. Limiting factor on you car is the turbo. No good for much more than 280bhp.

Cheers

Rich

If you want any more advise on 97 tuning mail me offline. I have a 97 UK turbo producing 344bhp and it's an everyday driver.

Pls. email me at Swatisharples@aol.com.I tried to get your email address off Scoobynet but failed.

i am buying a 96 import tomorrow.been speaking to an evo owner and he said that the standard car is going to be somewhere around 260hp.if the standard turbo is only good for 280hp then is it worth me buying electronic boost controller or should i spend the money on a bigger turbo?
What turbo are most people happy with over the standard one?
is there like a common uprated turbo that most people buy?

The main advantage of the vta dumb valve is that it can be used with good effect to alert other road users that a total **** is approaching their direction and particularly so if your car isn't already covered in stickers

I take it you haven't actually read much of scoobynet in your 4 years since registering then?

That depends on the Import model, WRX are listed (mostly) at 240bhp, STi (from V3 I think) are 280 and has a larger turbo (TD05 or an IHI VF series), but thats to JAE (Japanese) test standards, testing to US (SAE) or EU (DIN) gets about 215-220 from a '240' WRX.

The more power you want, the bigger the turbo you need, but that makes it laggier and gives poor spool up, so you pic the smallest turbo that gives the target bhp!

What power do you want? Will you be taking it on track? What's your budget? Bit of a vague question there matey.

You'll be needing a new Maf 1st . . Nothing but trouble Induction kits.

Seriously - A re-map and de-cat are the way to go for sensible tuning . An Ecutek stage 2 map and a full de-cat should take the power on your uk turbo to around 250 - 260 bhp for around £1500. If you wanted to take it a bit further you could go for uprated headers and uprated intercooler, then you'll be in Sti territory. I had similar mods on my My98 uk spec and achieved 280bhp . .

It's a 97 and CANNOT be remapped via the ECUTek route !

Better off buying an Apexi ecu if you want it mapped, which you will do if you stick a 3" exhaust and cone air filter on it !

i was thinking around 350hp.
my mate has got an evo 2 tuned to 312hp and i basically want more power than him (vain i know)
also another friend has a brand new focus st3 and has modded it to 280hp.i want him to see it was stupid to pay 20,000 and tune a new focus when he can spend a fraction of that and buy a scooby.
so would you say the best thing to do is get a de-cat first.

For 350, you will need to spend alot!!

Fuel Pump
Injectors
ECU
STI top mount or front mount Intercooler
and the decat

I appreciate that youre trying to help, but this isnt fantastic advice...

A 1996 WRX Saloon will be rated at either 260PS or 280PS, depending on its model year. C(2)-Series cars (manufactured between September 1995 & August 1996) are rated at 260PS and D-Series cars (manufactured between September 1996 & August 1997) are rated at 280PS. The D-Series cars have the later type bonnet, headlamps and grille: the C(2)-Series cars have the older panels, but they are better able to run on UK fuel...

Must admit the bhp/ps figures for jdm classics confuse the hell out of me !!

Do they meet these figures on VPower ?

for cheap mods go for full decat, sti panel filter, dawes device(make sure you fit a boost gauge),and remove your standard headers and port them and wrap them use new gaskets should make a nice quick car without spending a fortune
