MY00 in Sonic
#1
How easy is it to come accross MY00 in sonic blue(not a P1)? Do these have to be imported from Holland as from time to time I see lads on about their eu import sonic blue turbo's? Maybe someone can fill me in......
Cheers.

I am pretty sure that the MY00 was not available in the UK in Sonic Blue, so yes, it would be a Euro import. I think the Terzo was sonic blue, but they are about MY97 or 98.

yep sonic wasnt a UK normal colour and only used on specials, the terzo, 22b type UK and P1. The colour was available as a (uk spec) euro import and a JDM grey import.

Here's some pics of sonic blue MY99/00's in N.Ireland
I had an MY99 4-door in sonic blue, definately not an import.

Thanks lads, that answers my question anyway. Do you have any idea whats involved in importing one from Holland or Belgium and how would you go about locating one there. So who's selling their sonic blue turbo???????????

I have a sonic blue MY00 from Netherlands. Its not for sale though
There are plenty of threads on here about importing from Europe. The bottom line is that you don't save as much money as you used to. I paid just over 15K after cost of flights, ferrys, thatcham alarm, registration etc.... List price at the time was a tad under 21K IIRC.
There is quite a lot of paperwork involved but not prohibitively so.
The most important thing to remember is that the VAT is usually not included in prices you are quoted. This is becasue you only pay the vat in the country where the car will reside.
Things have moved on since I imported mine but in a couple of years I may be in the market for a new STI from my Dutch "dealer"
Cheers

Mines a sonic blue my00 and it too came from Holland. As far as i'm led to believe sonic blue was a standard colour over there, whereas here it was an optional extra (more money) hence few people went for it except for the importers.

I disagree with Treacle (no offence intended). I was specifically told by a UK dealer that the MY00 was not available in sonic blue when I asked if they could get one.
This is what starded me down the road of importing. Once I found out the price I was hooked.
It is possible that the dealer may have lied. I suspect, blue being the most popular colour, that the waiting list for blue was the longest, and there was a waiting list in 2000. The dealer may have thought I could be convince to buy another colour. WRONG! Of course I am speculating here.
However, I have heard since from several other sources that sonic blue was not available for standard UK turbo in 2000 and I am 99% sure this is the case.
The fact that you could get a RHD sonic blue car from any other EU country at the time boggles the mind.....

Dr Nick, I stand corrected, and no offence taken . I don't think your dealer lied as if there was a waiting list for this colour there would be many examples on the road . Obviously they exist as we both have them and Sonic, and i assume many others, but i've yet to see another on the road .

Thanks Tony, how do you attach a photo to this as I want to show you a picture of a car which states its wrc blue but I always thought the sonic blue was a deeper color. Was there MY00 brought out in a simular color but not sonic?? If I show you the photo you might have a better idea what im on about...

Mine was a JDM car and a local garage brought 10 over from Japan all brand new. Mine had 9 miles on the clock when I picked it up. So it has a full UK service history.

What is the whitish thing to the right of the fog lamp? Another lamp?
Other differences I can see between this fine example and my car are the nonstandard looking exhaust, colour coded side skirts (nice) and gold wheels (always fancied a set).
Any other differences chrisp?

Great cars, chrisp and terzo228. Dr NIck, i think the 'whitish thing' is a clear indicator cover. Looks very smart, especially as it doesn't have that naff orange plastic wedge that mine has. Is yours completely standard?(mine is).

The white light to the left of the spots are crystal clear indicators. I also have blue side repeaters on the wings. The orange wedges have been sprayed sonic blue (by me). The car is a grey import (JDM - japanese domestic market) WRX Type RA Limited and has 276bhp (in standard form). Its an RA (race altered) model so there are no side skirts fitted as standard, along with very little sound proofing. Other mods are the 18s speedlines and a cat back exhaust (TSL centre and scoobysport bb) and an ITG filter and centre pod with 60mm defi guages.
The car came with STi suspension, short ratio gearbox, full electric pack and blue SWRT alcantara seats, blue surround for the dash board clocks and a blue centre console and alimited plaque just below the ashtray .
