Hi, I'm new to Scoobynet and Scooby owning. Just took delivery of my WRX and 500 miles on I'm having a problem selecting 5th gear above 3,000rpm. Anyone else out there had the same problem? Have been back to my Bedfordshire dealer and they're going to sort it.......
Besides that, fantastic car, fantastic handling, and if he's good, maybe, and only maybe, I'll let me fella drive it......

Oi! We'll have none of that sexism on here please, it's ok the other way round though isn't it lads! The ladies are handy when we've had too much to drink, that's only fair!
Only joking(ish)
Welcome to a great bunch of nutters.
5th on my 03 STi is bulkier than the others but not a major prob. Should ease as the miles go on.

I had a problem with my MY02 WRX. 5th gear syncromesh was replaced under warranty and it's been perfect ever since.

The problem originated when trying to change up into 5th at revs above about 4k in 4th when it owuld crunch into gear.

I've now covered 17k since the rebuild with no probs whatsoever from the gearbox.

And me sexist??? Never, not on your life, nope, not me.....it's just that some men should really not be behind the wheel of a car.....you know what I mean!

Lanes - my 03 WRX was more than a little notchy going into 5th until I had done about a 1000 miles (especially when cold). Has now done nearly 7K and is as smooth as silk .......

Hi, my 03 WRX PPP seems to be fine so far... it's got 1500 miles on at mo and changes up relatively smoothly, although I have to say I prefer to leave it in 4th for as long as possible as the noise gets my right here, every time! Honest, just here... left a bit, that's got it.

Nick.

MY02 WRX here and have to virtually double declutch sometimes to chenge down from 5th to 4th (hot or cold), but changing up is not really a racing change so not noticed any problems. Really difficult to engage and sometimes end up coasting around corners in neutral Also have difficulty selecting reverse on start up. Thought "they all do that", should I get it investigated?

Yeah I have trouble getting it into reverse too on my 03WRX PPP. Not only when the car is cold either. Done 6000 miles to date so a bit surprised it still does it.

My MY02 WRX wagon is occasionally difficult to get into reverse, especially when cold.

Get the impression too that second gear synchro is a bit weaker that the others, but never any significant problems....

Unfortuantly I can't really comment coz i've never used 5th gear yet . Anyway I'm sure your going to be grinning for the next 6 months and then the next 6 month and then the next 6 months....

Fantasic choice of car, hope your box is sorted out soon

Hey Yoza, you're not being ever so slightly sexist are you?? Surely not!

My fella has trouble selecting any gear in the WRX.... Pretty difficult from the passenger seat I believe.......
