What happens if you don't pay the fine - I'm talking about the initial £25 jobbie for non-notification? And what's the likely outcome if you don't pay and then come to sell your motor?

Just pay the fine!! Its easier in the long run, trust me. Due to major repairs on a vw combi van i run i didn't renew the tax disc(van kept on private property and not used on public roads). I didn't notify DVLA and was forced to pay the fine . This was over the christmas period and a mix up at their end resulted in the check being cashed but the case against me not being closed.I didn't know this. When the van was fixed i re-taxed her no probs.

With no further warnings i was issued with a summons to court!! All because my van was broken and i didn't tell them. I obviously phoned them and sorted it all out, they sent a very appologetic letter for upsetting me with the court summons when i'd already paid. They didn't take any messing though and the fact that you may have sold the vehicle will be of little imprtance to them IMO

if it was me i would pay the £25 fine .
the dvla have the power to clamp your car and also crush it .
after the first small fine costs rise quite steeply .

if you do drive it you will be caught on a traffic camera some where and then they will have no mercy on you or your car.

think of it as half a tank of fuel to keep your car out of the crusher and you out of court.

For the sake of £25 it's not worth all the grief that you could get. I'd pay it & then you're not waiting for the court summons to drop on the doormat.
