Help,
I want to order my Subaru for 1st Sept, however I don't know which one to go for;

WRX with the prodrive or

STI standard spec.

Which one is best buy?

Are there any other options that are must haves?

Try search.

General opinion seems to be that the WRX+PPP offers the best vfm. But you won't get 6 speed box, LSD, i/c spray etc..

Horses for courses.

Again been discussed in other threads, but I just add that the WRX PPP is generaly regarded as an easier everyday car than the STI, but the STI has uprated brakes suspension, and six speeed quick shift.

What do the change on the WRX when they install PPP?

I was told by the dealer that it has the same bhp as the STI but does 0-60 in 4.8sec?

to quote EVO - WRX PPP is the better performance bargain,
and more usable day to day.

I know I keep banging on about it - but (cash aside - and don't forget insurance difference) key factor is visibility. No point buying WRX if you wish you were in a more overt motor.

Personally understated wins hands down, but suspect may be outvoted on Scoobynet?! Wasn't that the reason for the now cult status of the Classic after all - nobody knew how good/fast it was (or even what it was) until they drove it.

He's telling you worng then

Goto the subaru website and look in the WR sport section

The Sti8 PP is far more flexible and quicker than the WRX PPP

I'd recommend going for the Sti. At some point in the future you may wish to further improve performance and get the PPP on the STi.

I've had an My01 WRX, an MY02 Sti and now an My03 STi PPP on order for Spet 1st. (ordered on Monday by the way).

Trade in on MY02 WRX's is currently about 13.5k, looking at recent posts, I got 19k for the STi. Residuals are much much better.

Yes I suppose so and in that case the WRX seems quicker 0-60. But you need to compare all gearing, speed and rev ranges to get a true picture.

Scooby L - Yes Black it is, canvassed evryone for an opinion. Popping in tonight to sort paperwork and options. Will probably just spec the PPP and flaps(£350 ) for now, and check finances later in August to buy wheels.

Liked the Sao Paulos, but if I am to sell the standard wheels on, would prefer something from the Subaru price list so as not to affect resale. Will probably stick with gold too, so the FF7's look favourite although I do like the Gold OZ wheels.

another benefit of WRX is order time.
I ordered my WRX wagon in June and only took 10 days!
but PPP is currently 6-8wks waiting time.

Don't know about STi - but looks like 6 weeks from above comments.

PPP is exhaust, intercooler pipe and ECU.

If you can afford it and the extra insurance go for the STI, and at a later date you could add the PPP to this.

Better resale value, rarer,

Peter (my03 wrx no PPP)

Red face

Well I'm in the same situation again. WRX PPP or std STI. I could afford the STI with PPP, but dont expect to keep the car longer than 5 months. Want the new STI then Therefore I might look at things differently.

Ive already owned a MY02 STI and a MY03 PPP(recently departed this earth - thanks scum). In theory I should have a go at the STI. But it looks like I'll buy an ex demo WRX.

IF you think you might add a PPP to the STI at some time and IF you dont mind a hardish ride in comparison, then go for the STI. The fact is that a WRX with PPP is quicker than a std STI. You'll also get better fuel economy and a nicer ride.

Owned 3 STI variants and none of them got nicked, so maybe the WRX is more desirable

As for resale, the STI is no better and thats a FACT. The old STI cost people £27,500 and people are lucky to get £18,500 in a straight sale - 1 year later. Most people paid full up as well when new.

Looking at the new STI vs WRX.

STI in one year £19,000 vs £24,250 (discounted) £5250 loss
WRX in one year £15,500 vs £19,250 £4000 loss

Dont use last years numbers too much as the bugeye run out has confused it slightly. I spoke to lots of people in the trade and know and everyone advised on the WRX - it will lose less.

Chins

Thanks for the information, do you know by how much fuel economy is affected on the WRX with PPP?

How on earth did Subaru manage to make the standard STi slower than the WRX with PPP, that has confused the hell out of me!!!

Surely round a track like for like the STi would outpace the WRX/PPP????

PPP has little effect on ecconomy, still 30-32 MPG on the motorway and 22-26 elsewhere.

WRX PPP is faster to 60 due to the STi not being able to hit 60 in 2nd, lower ratio's with 6 speed box.

Chins - thanks for well researched(!) info: seems I made correct decision (WRX PPP)for what I'm after.

Surely STi quicker on track (rather than on paper) as should handle better on perfect surface.

And re fuel economy - totally agree - esp if have remotely heavy right foot and if you don't why would you EVER want PPP or STi?!

I dont see a PPP WRX ever beating an STI but maybe I am wrong.

I've had the same gearing problem in my STI8 at Santa pod. Fourth gear runs just over 100MPH and its a case of do you leave it there and run into the red or try for 5th and come off boost. Tried it both ways and hanging onto 4th gives the best times.

Forest I ran a 13.2. That was with my best start but it was also the run i decided to go for 5th and lost abit of time. I would suggest she would run a 12.9 ish. Car only had about 3K miles on the clock so still a bit more to come i think. Was my first go up the pod and was excellent fun

She has a ''trust extreme'' manifold back exhaust and ''trust'' induction kit. Oh and a trust radiator cap, i think that made all the difference ,,,,,haha

Not bad then gary. Mines standard with 2900 miles should be around the 13.5 mark then?

I used to get 15.2 in my Mk1 Clio 172 at the pod but haven`t took the scoobie yet

I reckon you should mate yeah...

Funny thing was I was there gatecrashing a Vee Dud day ..... whooped all their ***** till they rolled out a nos powered Mini and he did me up like a kipper.....Was very funny.

no-body would run against me in the end, the girl said i was intimidating them and ran me on my own, thats when i got my best run then i went home, no fun anymore .....haha ....they didnt wanna play.

was a very very big head wind as well so maybe an extra tenth to be had.

I had two 172's up till i bought the 8. Still got one now but I cant say im bothered for driving it anymore, just no fun after the STI.

Your on your second one arent you? Hope this one dont get totalled mate

yeah just passed the mileage at which the other STI was wiped out. Been a little nervous this last 100 miles.

By the way sorry for hijacking this thread.

Go for the STI, it has the looks if you like that OTT look. I had the choice and I just fell in love the exterior/interior but that`s just my opinion, I know if I`d had the WRX I would have always wanted the STI.
