Bike rack for Scooby
#1
I know that there have probably been loads of discussions about this, but I do not have the time to go back through the bbs and find them
Could someone please tell me what bike rack is best for a Scoob, give an indication as to price and where I can get it? Should I get one for the roof or the back of my Scoob? I intend to go up to Scotland with my mountain bike so I just need something to carry just my bike rather than three or four. I am only likely to ever carry one, or at most, two bikes. Also, I intend to do some driving around Scotland (if you take my meaning) so I need something that is not going to severely hamper handling of the car and security of the bike.
Many thanks.
Maz.

Personally I went for the official Subaru roof bars and use the Thule bike racks on top of those. I did consider the Thule roof bars, but the Subaru ones seemed a more secure fit as they use the existing roof rails.
Can't remember which model of bike rack I have, but it's the one that takes the bike as is - not the ones where you need to remove the front wheel and use the forks. I'm sure they are more secure, but it's a real PITA remove the tyre.
I paid £30 for them 2nd-hand, but I don't think they are that expensive from the Dealer; could be wrong though

buy a Wagon and bike fits in boot!
really helpful huh!
Previous recommendation about proper roof bars/bike rack is the way to go. The cheapo strap-on numbers (ooh err) are not really advisable for long journeys/ major thrash around highland roads as tend to work loose, and by the time purchase light/reg board costs same as cheapo rack.
If don't like roof bar idea, can do tow bar then get very secure bike mounts, but tad expensive.

My mountain bike will go in the boot of my 03 WRX saloon, just take both wheels off and the saddle out, and poke one half of the handlebars through the ski tunnel. Nice and secure (disable internal boot release), and snug for, ehem enthusiastic driving.

As I only have a rucsac to take with me and no passengers, I think I may even be able to put both seats down - didn't even think of it! Will cost up a roof rack from Subaru and Thule bike rack as well. Thanks guys.
One thing, is it not a pain to remove BOTH wheels - I've only ever removed hte front one. I have quick release wheels, so it shouldn't be a problem I guess. Anyway, thanks.
