I wouldnt mess with the air-intake if i were you. Bye bye MAF sensor and they wont cover it.

Oh and re: mileage/problems. Mine had a new short block engine and turbo on warranty at 44k miles.

Does anyone know what sort of effect on fuel consumption the PPP has?

After only about 2000 miles after buying my MY98, my crank went pop
It was replaced with other bits including a new clutch under the
subaru proven warranty scheme

I have since had fitted a scoobysport backbox and centre section and it has been back to subaru for a service and nothing was said.

Cheers for your replies guys.

I never realised how expensive messing with the ECU would be! If I were to carry out the modifications I mentioned, and get my ECU reprogrammed by BR Developments, Clive Atthowe Tuning, Graham Goode Racing, or Power Engineering (cheers for the link Pete), I'm still looking at over a grand. Bugger.

Maybe the PPP isn't such a bad idea after all. And at least it's totally covered by the warranty, which, by the looks of it as far as greg.g and SiDHEad are concerned, is definitely worth having! Just need to save up... :~(

Thanks again.

I've owned my MY99 Wagon for almost 2 years. I've got a proven used warranty that runs out in September 2003 and I've got a ProDrive BB and a ScoobySport de-cat center.

Up to 3 months ago I'd never had a problem with the Scoob ... 1 dead battery and that was it.

However, 3 months ago a stutter/surging/missfire/lack of performance appeared. The stutter/surging was just like the one 'some' MY99/00's suffer from when cold, but this was happening when warm.

Over the last 3 months (and under a proven warranty) Subaru have replaced the ...

a) MAF sensor
b) Lamda sensor
c) ECU !!!

... tweaked the

a) boost
b) timing

... cleaned the ...

a) boost solenoid
b) and some other stuff I can't remember

Looks like it's fixed 99% of the problem, which I'm happy about, and they've never said anything about the exhaust Mind you the warranty booklet does NOT mention exhausts at all.

Unless exhausts and de-cats have suddenly become FOC, I think the total will still be over a grand Pete!

fdpxfunix, sounds like they were reasonable with you. Hope they're that good with me if I have a problem. Did they do all that because they couldn't find the fault? Or because it all needed doing...?

I'd be surprised if the waranty will still be valid if you decat your exhaust - you may get away with decatting the middle box but probably not the downpipe

"At the moment, I'm reasonably happy with the standard performance, but I'd like to replace the back box, possibly de-cat it, and replace the air intake, mor to personalise it than anything else."

alot of people say this on this board but if everyone does it how does it personalise it?

No-one said a Tek won't work unless a full decat is fitted
Just decat the centre section (£60 for magnex) and get a 2nd hand backbox for around £100 = better than PPP for less cash

I bought a 3 year old car, that has been someone elses pride and joy for 3 years. Is it wrong of me to make a couple of modifications to it, to make it "mine"? Yes there are plenty of modified cars, but there are also plenty of standard cars too!

Brun,

Now those sort of figures sound more like it! Now all I've got to do is find someone with access to DeltaECU Flash99, who knows what they're doing, and who isn't going to charge stupid amounts of money...
