Question

Just spent £3k on my 98 GTB, mostly on an engine rebuild, which may be fair enough as car has done 112,000 miles.

Love the car, had it almost 3 years (after 4 cheap years with an old Legacy turbo) but worried about more costs...clutch is new-ish, turbos seem ok, does anyone have any good/bad experiences in owning a GTB?

Impreza unfortunately too small and don't like the looks of the current Legacy...and won't be able to afford the new Legacy when it comes out. Might be forced to leave Subaru which would be a shame, maybe forced to go for a Volvo V70 T5R....

Mark H, have a look on yahoo for the legacyb4 group, lotsa TT pilots there (or are you a member already?).

IMHO, get a knocklink for your car, and a boost gauge is a good idea too (preferably one that records boost peak to check for spikes, and has a warning to tell you if it is overshooting).

No reason the TTs can't do mega miles as long as you take care of them. Decent oil changed frequently, all the basics of hi-perf Scoob ownership apply, as I am sure you well know. And the usual Optimax/good fuel, etc., etc.

HTH And best of luck with the new engine. Run her in well

PS can you tell us what went wrong, please?

Thanks, I will try / join that group.

There was a knocking sound which turned out damage to the no.1 big end. No mention of running the engine in, but maybe I should?
