Seen as we have the Gruppe S headers group buy in here - thought i might as well put the wrap in here to (if thats ok with the mods - atleast just for a bit).
Check Agriemach
They have loads of exhaust wrap there. Wendy said that for the scoob, the best wrap would be 1 roll of 2" x 50ft (beige or black colour).
I know its only a small amount we will be saving as a group buy but basically when you order your goods, give Wendy your details (ie payment details and delivery details) and she will discount the price slightly.
Before we start buying, how many people will need the exhaust wrap (need to know this so we know how much discount we can get).
Wendy said:
5+ = 5% discount
10+ = 10% discount
15+ = 15% discount
I know its only a few quid (probably about £10 saving each) but we might as well save £10 if we are all going to order it anyway.
They have loads of wrap in stock and should be with you in a couple of days once the order is placed
Anyway - who is interested?

I wont take orders yet (not sure if i will) as we just need to find out how many people WILL order from these guys.
Once we know (say we get over 15), then i can tell wendy and tell her all your usernames and then when you ring up, just say your username and get the discount
Again look at this link

Nom reckons 2" could be tricky. Anyone else done it and if so what did you use?

2" is fine on headers, and I would say easier because you don't need so many wraps.
check the price at Rally Design first www.raldes.co.uk as from memory it's lots cheaper than even the discounted prices above

Is there a quality difference between these two (or others)? If there's no difference, we'll go for the cheapest. If there is a difference, then (these being relatively cheap purchases) we'll go for the best.

2" is fine, I have wrapped my headers,up pipe and downpipe with it, a 1" overlap between turns seems to be good. Jubilee clips work for holding it on but there are special clips available. Stainless wire will also work but is more difficult to use. You will need getting on for 80 feet to do all those three items. the headers and downpipe need about the same each. It is worth spraying it with VHT paint to protect it from oil and water when it is done. Well worth doing.

I suspect the stuff is exactly the same. The "cool-tek" stuff you can buy is thicker, but lower temp rating and not so nice to handle. The beige stuff is a much tighter weave, and easier to apply IHMO.
Having wrapped a 4-2-1 set of headers on david's car, I would say the 1" would be a right pain!
I ended up using a good system for doing the locking wire too, will have to do some pictures when i

Exhaust wrap is thermal insulation (lagging) for exhaust components. It's used to keep hot manifolds and downpipes, sometimes up-pipes - hot. i.e. to keep under-bonnet temperatures down. The subject has had come up now because quite a few people are buying stainless steel manifolds. If these are not lagged, then they release a lot of heat under the bonnet, and can melt wiring (amoungst other issues).

Is this like the sort of "red crackle" paint that STi blocks are coloured with? How thick is the paint?

Cheers Pavlo.
SO basically we might as well go to the site Pavlo suggested as its cheaper and is still good for temp rating.
And beige is easiest

Fatman,
The VHT paint is high temperature stuff as you say. Halfords sell it in aerosol cans under that name. Its easy to apply, the paint comes off on your hands when you have sprayed the heat wrap and it smokes for a bit after you start the engine. But it does a worthwhile job of protecting the wrap from oil and water. When it has had a chance to dry off properly under hot conditions it does not come off on your hands.
