Could someone clarify Subaru UK stance concerning warranties

Is the warranty void or valid if:

1. You use a non Subaru garage but use 'British Standard' parts and the garage is VAT registered ?

2. You use a non Subaru garage but use genuine 'Subaru' parts and the garage is VAT registered ?

thanks

aj

Thumbs down

If you sneeze in your car without the written permission of Subaru it voids your warranty.

They're seriously ****.

That is not true

In answer to the actual question, it *shouldn't* matter if the car is serviced anywhere as long as it is according to schedule & the book stamped - current EEC regs which Subaru UK/IM should adhere to.

In practice, they would obviously prefer that you used a recognised franchise dealer.

I believe that the parts issue is less clear as the parts should be of simillar quality as OE - so a slightly greyer area.

BUT

At the end of the day, I have always found the warranty to cover everything that is written down it covers - the only exception (not unexpectedly) would be where a modification would have an adverse effect on the reliability of a part - so that would not be covered. (Dawes/Full De-Cat on engine etc).

I've had brakes, suspension, non-official PPP & track days a-plenty & that has NOT affected any warranty claims that I have had - they were not related except for poss wheel bearings...

So, don't take the P & your warranty is still valid. EEC law covers the items listed in the question. Being VAT'd has no bearing AFAIK

Would agree with Puff. In my experience it pays to get to know your local dealer. Both of the dealers I've had experience of have been excellent. The warranty that IM provide is basically an insurance policy. It is up to the dealer to put in the 'claim'.

Quite rightly, IM would not take responsibility for a heavily modified car (name me a manufacturer who would). Don't take the p*ss as Puff said and you should be OK.

Disagree

My mate recently asked about the terms on the Extended Warranty (ext to 6th year) and was told flat VOID warranty if serviced at a garage OTHER than a Subaru dealership.

Correct

BECAUSE Subaru UK/IM don't underwrite the extended warranty - it is Mondial Assurance iirc & they impose separate conditions to those of IM

Hope that clarifies

So WHO provides the original warranty then? Is that IM or Mondial?

I bought MY car when it was 30 months old so who provided up to 36 months IM? or Mondial?

ALL Dealers are pants
