![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I got absolutely roasted alive by one of these yesterday on the M4.
I have always loved the aggressive looks, and I know it has had some incredible write-ups from the likes of Clarkson and Needell.
And I do miss rear-drive.
Anybody have any experience? What are they like on track? Running costs? etc?

As I remember Coupe M3 v Evo 6 v Subaru 22B straight line test (from Clarkson's Car Wars or something like that)
22B fastest off the line, quarter mile M3 won by a car length, followed by 22B followed by Evo.

I was made redundant last week so I am avoiding certain like minded people who encourage me to spend money on.....
.....luxury goods
.
Will try and get the situation under control just as soon as I manage to switch the magnets off on that sun lounger in my garden

I had similar experience with a Carrera 4 about 3 months ago. Me in 4th he pulled away from 60 mph about a car length every 3 or 4 seconds, up to 110 when we both gave up. Wouldn't call that a roasting but very impressive, and yes he was trying - given the stuff coming out of those twin exhausts!
Top tip, don't try this with a Tuscan S - you will get very very depressed.

Up to 100 the scoob is quick, after wards dont bother.
Ive had it out with a 911 and a m3 and start i was fine. COuldnt stop smiling to. After though, they soon passed me as they can push it further.
A mates old toyota - now im quickest off the start, but on the motorway where its plain straight, i got to 140 and that was about it for me, he went past at 150.
Im not bragging about speed. Just saying top end, scoobs are sh*te! lol
You want a good top end car - get a skyline

In France last year with a couple of mates and one had the Z3 M Cabriolet..empty roads so loads of time for comparisons.
Up to 100 he was behind every time, but 100 to 140 he would make it back easily (but never got in front). He hit the limiter at 155 and we just sailed on by.
Have to say i'd like one though, but not the cabriolet.

This talk is worrying. I am in the process of buying my first scooby. The reason I want tog o for a scoob is because they are supposidly reliable even when thrashed (any info on this rumour would be appreciated) and also becuase the imports etc are supposed to be quite capable.
Reading this thread makes me think that perhaps scoobs are not that fast...? (flame suit on). I should have about 10 - 12K and was going to try for a WRX Sti V4 / V5 2dr.
I suppose the info I would quite like would be:
Are scoobies fast? (when compared to tuned up renault 5's / evos + pulsars)
are scoobies reliable, even they get relentlessly thrashed?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Martin

now dont get me wrong i have endless respect for the M coupe it is a stunning looking car, BUT they are not that great? i raced my pal in one at the last Avon Park, Stratford 1/4 mile day.... ive never done one of these before and it was time to break out my new 5 type R, i ran consistant 13.2's and got down to a 13.09 on my best run
.
the bimmer could only run a 13.9 at best and ended up droppin out as he was overheating giving you an idea of HOW DAMM HOT the weather was!
bearing in mind the type R is pretty standard are they really that quick............................................. ?

I tried to have a pop at on (Z3 M Coupe), single lane road so no where he could go, he kept up with me. I had a little on him round some of the bends, but soon on the straight sections he was there again. (Standard MY02 WRX)
Scooby Mart - remember its horses for courses, for pure speed and driving at £10 - £12k I'd go for a Caterham, however I'm not going to fit the missus and the baby in there when we need to visit the grandparents am I? Scoobs are fast enough for what they are built for 5 seater cars for everyday use. The sort of speeds most people are talking about do not happen often and most other makes can keep up but rarely have the power needed to pass which usually requires so much more power than required for just keeping up with another car.

Why is a M coupe faster than a M roadster, similar weight and the same engine!?!?!?!
The coupe handles better as the roadster is a bit wobbley, my brother had a roadster with Koni shocks and springs, front strut brace and a bit of engine tweaking.
It was a very quick car and handled a lot better than standard, remember these cars are going for 0-100 in 11secs and then red line at over 8000rpm, what an engine.

I went on the sidc website today and printed the FAQ info they had. Now I have covered that I know a load more on scoobs and what sort of performance they give out. I really want to go for a sti 4/5/6 Type R and with a 0 - 60 of about 5 secs I dont think the performance will be a prob.
My fear of the car being slow was after going in a friends UK spec turbo (he said it should be running about 260 bhp). It was fairly rapid, but to be honest, % dont think it would have pulled away from a moderatly tuned 205 or renault 5 (which isnt what you want after spending 10K +...). I think his car needed setting up or something and any car I buy will hopefully be painful for a passenger - even in a straight line.....
After doing more research, I feel happier that the reliability aspect is not going to be a problem either.
With regards to leaving the )3 coupe on the bends - nice driving! It much easier to follow than it is to lead so to slightly leave another car like that behind is nice going....

money 140mph top end
i know for certain mine does 160mph but i would back off at just over 100mph anyway as the bans get bigger and who cares if a engine with over 1 litre of performance more can beat you top end
i would assume all the top boys with OVER 2ltr size engine would leave the scoob top end

Why not compare a tuned scooby to one!
Scoobs in standard form are stil quick enough (especially the import ones compared to the usual uk ones).
Stevebt - yours does 160? You sure? Is it a Uk one? I know the P1 is geared to 155 and the imports are only about 145 (i think)
I know you could get banned and i dont make a habit of going over 100. I just wanted to see when i got it what was the top end (at night of course).
Its to risky to go over 100 now - to many cops and cameras about now so bye bye license **waves bye bye **
