lucky escape - belt snapped

heard a funny noise from under the bonnet after driving home from work for 3/4hr.

open bonnet and indentified the noise.

the belt that goes on the air con pulley had split into 3 bits and some how didnt get caught up with the cam belt!!!! PHEW!!!!

i count myself bloody lucky!!

Lucky it did not get entangled, but haven't you got covers over the cambelt?

complete belt change for you then - wouldnt risk not getting it done incase its the cambelt next!

Question

Don't you mean the altenator belt? The cam belt is tucked away under its cover, none of it is exposed.

I was going to say you would be very unlucky for it to get to the cam belt as its tucked away under the plastic cover...glad every thing was ok though.

yep my mistake, although the alternator belt got damaged, loads of chucnks are missing so they have both been replaced

had a fanbelt go on a cav turbo and it took out 2 valvesand i only thought the cam belts done this, i was lucky as i heard a noise aswell and it snapped when i stopped

Rb5, hope you get her all sorted ASAP - I don't like seeing scoobies that are ill... especially your RB5...

If a belt snaps it can still jam the ancillery it's powering and cause damage to the crank,head etc.Air con normally has a clutch though so if any were to go then probably best that.
